The Martian by Andy Weir

Solid 2.5 for premise but it was let down by its writing. Too much telling, too little showing.
The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton

Can't believe this is the same man who wrote Evelyn Hardcastle. What a waste of time.

The good: This was a very fast-paced and pretty entertaining read.
The bad: This book could have been so much more. It had no depth. Chloe the protagonist is rich, privileged, white and oblivious. Very realistic, probably, but this does not make for interesting reading. There are only so many ways she can say "I didn't know". I'd rather have read a book centred around Isla. I'd rather read a book which didn't vaguely try and redeem a poor little rich girl.

Ehhh disappointing, so a 2.75 maybe? Well written but too long, a bit laboured, got pretty boring and dragged out. And agree with all the other reviews on how there's some weird homophobic stuff at play.
