it dragged on for too long, both characters were boring the hell out of me, and worst of all, it was sickeningly cheesy and I physically cringed reading their I love yous at the end of the book

Grown is, at its core, a social commentary on the grooming, abuse and resulting victim blaming/shaming that little black girls experience in society wrapped up in a murder mystery/thriller.

Considering the topic it revolves around, it's expected to be a difficult, triggering read and it was. I had to take quite a few breaks in between but it was still an extremely engaging read. I liked how Enchanted's naivety was shown and highlighted while juxtaposed with the adults in her life telling her that she's mature for her age. It was an incredible detail to the story.

However, the ending fell horribly flat for me. The problem with telling stories like these that serve to highlight problems in society and with self is that the endings almost never fit right. The author attempted to give the story a wrap with several twists and turns and all that did, for me, was fumble and downplay the gravity the book had set up in the first three parts. It was getting quite silly at a point.

That being said, I still enjoyed this very much and it's an amazing start to my February reading. Definitely will be recommending this!!

As far as romcoms go, this is definitely one of the better ones I've read. Sam had exactly my type of humor so I was giggling my way through this book. It was a Hallmark movie in novel form, unfortunately that meant the romance but didn't develop well enough for me to justify rating it more than 3 stars. Sam and Jonathan were cute though!

And honestly, faking amnesia to get out of a tough situation is exactly the type of shit I'd pull so he was real for that!!

the perfect series finale and I say this as someone who rarely enjoys book endings. I loved Alan and Jack, they were absolutely my favorite of all three couples and I'm going to miss them very much.

Yet another beautiful book from K. J. Charles. This is easily one of my favorites from her. I loved the characters, the angst and the kink discussions in this. Both characters' kinks were approached and handled very carefully and I love that Charles did justice to them. I'll never tire of a book written by her.
