The Princess in Black by Shannon Hale, Dean Hale
5.0
A bit sad that my book got in a bit damaged. :( I don't know what they did there where I bought it, but there are big, deep folds in some of the pages and the bookwrapper is also a bit dented/folded. Come on people, I buy the book from your place, make sure it gets to my place in one piece.
Now for the review.
I heard about this book through twitter several months ago and I knew I just had to get this. I like princesses, but I love them even more when they are kick-ass and do awesome stuff like defending their kingdom and their people!
And my oh my, our princess in this book is just awesome, on one side being a prim and proper lady, drinking chocolate and eating scones, on the other side being a kick-ass heroine. She apparently can balance them quite well, given how the Duchess had a hard time finding anything that wasn't part of her perfect princess personality.
I loved the monsters, they aren't really scary, more goofy and stupid. Oh and fluffy. Now if only they didn't eat goats or such.
Monster smell goats, thinks about why he can't go up, forgot reason why and goes up. Same goes for when he goes down, instantly forgetting why upstairs is dangerous, I can see him coming back again and again.
The illustrations are gorgeous and I really enjoyed them, they made the story even better and made it come alive.
I see this will have more books? I do hope so, since I would love to see more of our princess, maybe a book about how she came to be a superhero, since there is always a backstory about such a thing!
All in all I would really recommend this book. Children and adults will really love this magical and kick-ass book!

This Moose Belongs to Me by Oliver Jeffers
5.0
Another wonderful Christmas present I got from my boyfriend. <3
I have wanted to have this book for quite a bit of time when I first found out about it through, I believe, twitter! And now for Christmas, my dear boyfriend gave it to me as present!
Of course I couldn't resist reading it pretty much the following day and wow, it was lovely and I just kept paging back to the previous pages to look at the gorgeous illustrations.
Our main character Wilfred was a silly, and I also found him spoiled, character. So a moose one day comes to you and you instantly know he is meant to be yours. It is an over the top plot and also something that children might be thinking. I found this or this and that came to me, now it is mine. However, it was fun to see how Wilfred tried his best to keep the moose, by the way he named his moose Marcel (insert laughs and snorts), with him at all times. This meant putting a little note on his antlers or to stay close to him. Wilfred also gets lost easily so often you see him holding lots of string. :)
Add to this whole equation a lot of rules that Marcel must follow to be a good pet. I loved those little rules and they made me laugh quite a bit.
I also loved the part where another person claimed the moose to be theirs. I felt a bit sorry for Wilfred though, he truly thought Marcel was his, and now he finds out that maybe more people have met and are close to Marcel (or whatever his name is, since that various per person).
The illustrations was one of the big points why I wanted to read this book and I am not disappointed, wow, just wow. The art is absolutely fabulous and the backgrounds are just gorgeous and will make you want to be there. Have a fun day with Marcel and Wilfred. Get lost with them and find your way back home.
I would really recommend this book. Young and old, they will love the adventures, the rules and the surprises of having a moose as a pet.

The Worst Princess by Anna Kemp
5.0
I saw this one in the library and I just had to have it when I read the description. Kick-ass princess? Dragon? Yes, and more yes!
This was a really fun and great book. Our main character is a princess, but she isn't like all the others. She still wants to be saved, however her expectations of what happens after the saving part are a bit different from normal princesses. Normal princesses might just be like: Ohh, finally away from this terrible place, I could use a cup of tea and some beautiful dresses. While our princess is more like: I want to get out of this terrible place, tea would be lovely, but ewww dresses, where is the adventure? Where are the dragons? Where is the excitement?
Sadly, her prince is a wuss and he locks her up in her tower. That tower was awesome though, she could just simply open up the top of it and look over the world.
I loved how she lured the dragon with tea and sophisticated talk.
I had a great laugh when the prince got what he deserved, not only from the dragon he bothered, but also from various other characters.
The ending of the book was brilliant and I was cheering for both the princess and the dragon.
The illustrations were pretty good, I really liked the colours that were used.
All in all, a book I would really recommend. Are you tired of the normal princesses? Do you like dragons? Then this book is perfect for you!

Legends of Zita the Spacegirl by Ben Hatke
5.0
I decided now was the time to get book 2 and 3 in this amazing series. I really wanted to know if Zita would ever return home.
This book was amazing, wonderful and great. However, while I rated this a 5 stars, I had 2 things that I didn't particularly like.
Number 1 on the list is that robot/copy robot thing. I liked it when we first met it, I thought it was cute that a robot had someone she looked up too, but then she did certain things and was mean, rude and and overall body stealing bitch, and I didn't like her. No, not even during the end where she kind of redeemed herself. Clones, people trying to copy other peoples are things I don't like, especially when they are mean, rude and just bleh.
Number 2 on the list also has to do with that robot. How did no one notice that that wasn't Zita? Sure, one can say Piper noticed quite soon, but still, why didn't he take action? He left the real Zita! I would say people who have been around her should have seen that there is something different. The way she talked, the way she acted. It amazes me that they just didn't notice!
But those 2 things are the only things I had a problem with. Other than that, I loved this adventure. Zita is really awesome, she is strong, she kicks some ass, but also shows emotion. She is sad and angry when she finds that Piper left her alone, but she is strong and determined when she decides to go after him.
I know some people might have lost hope, after all will Zita really get home? Will she finally be able to get back to her family? Yet, while everything seems bleh, she never gives up, though we see that she really wants to go home, she even dreamt about her home.
I hope she will go home, however, I am also conflicted. On the one hand, I would love for her to be able to go home. On the other side, she will have to say goodbye to an awesome world, new friends and other things. Can she say bye? Or will we find something that gives her the option to travel back and forth between the worlds/dimensions.
We also have a new kick-ass lady. A woman named Madrigal who Zita encounters. I won't spoil anything else, but let's just say I love Madrigal and I really hope that she will be around more in the last book. It was really interesting to see how a few characters are connected to her. Characters I didn't really expect to be connected to her or one of her crew.
The book ends quite good and I really loved what happened with the battle. Zita will have new things to do, people to save and I will be reading the next book in a bit, because I really want to know how Zita ends!
I would really recommend this and also the previous book. Do you like sci-fi stories? Do you like strong girls who have a goal, but will also look further than that? Then read this one!

5 Centimeters Per Second by Makoto Shinkai
5.0
The movie was absolutely gorgeous (seen it twice or thrice now) and this manga is also beautiful. Highly recommended. Maybe I will write a review.
かんざきひろ画集 Cute by Hiro Kanzaki
5.0
Kanzaki Hiro, or Hiroyuki ODA, is both an amazing artist and a musician. He is one of my favourite artists and musicians. His art is vibrant, beautiful, gorgeous, while his music is upbeat, happy, and you just want to dance to the beat.
This art book shows us some of his works. From Oreimo, to original art, sometimes you don’t recognize his style, other times it is really clear that it is his. Oreimo was hit and miss for me (the anime), but I still enjoy watching all the art, and I remember some of the scenes that were drawn, so I had a laugh. And it was also really fun to see some of the characters, since I did like quite a few of them.
I really liked all the other works, the parodies, the fan arts for other anime/manga. We also have sketches and interviews (which I wasn’t really able to read, as my reading Japanese levels are low), but which were still a great addition to this art book.
The art is super colourful, and it was just pure eye candy to look at them.
I also really have to give extra points for the gorgeous cover and the cute font that is being used for it.
All in all, are you looking for some amazing art? Or are you a fan of Hiroyuki ODA/Hiro Kanzaki? Then be sure to check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.

オデットODETTE Vol.1 by 日当 貼, Hiate Haru
5.0
This was much more fun than I thought it would be.
I was a bit hesitant about this book, a girl and her cat, cat? boyfriend? Or actually human with cat head + cat tendencies, as we have yet to see if he is fully cat or not. For now, given he has hands, normal legs and a normal body, I guess he is human with a cat’s head? How did that poor guy achieve that? And why is he the only one like this, and yet no one is looking weird at them? Is he really having a cat’s head? Or is it just the imagination of the girl? I hope that these, and many many more questions will be answered in the next volumes, as I am quite curious about this whole thing.
I do like the relationship between the cat(?) and the girl, it was really adorable, he really took great care of her. Giving her his coffee/tea that has cooled down (since she can’t handle hot drinks), him holding her when she is drunk and almost toppling over, and several other things. On the other hand, the girl also does her best to care for the guy. All though, she tends to be überclumsy and forget everything, but you can see that she really does care about the guy. She gets him the manga he likes, she pets him (which, I must admit is a bit weird), and she does several other things.
The manga consists of various things, dates, but also real life for both of them, what they do when they aren’t together. There isn’t much romance, so at times it did look a bit like they were just friends or brothers and sisters. But then we would see the girl go in full blush mode at something the guy did, and we are back to lovers. :) Now I am not entirely sure if I would like to see romance/kissing/hugging/etc., it is still a bit awkward that one of them is a cat. Nothing wrong with loving a cat, but doing all the other stuff? That just goes in a no-no zone for me.
The art is gorgeous, soft and fluffy, which matches the feeling and style of the manga perfectly.
Would I recommend this manga? Yes, if you are in the need for something fluffy, cute and easy then this is the manga you are looking for.
