A beautiful artbook for the amazing character Sheryl Nome. Highly recommended if you are a fan of her, or you are looking for some gorgeous art. 99% of the art is SFW, though of course Sheryl still wears skimpy outfits at times. :D
How to sneeze in Japanese by James Chapman

A fantastic book for everyone who likes language, or weird sounds made by people.

I follow James Chapman on Twitter, and I saw he was holding a kickstarter to promote his new book. There were several tiers you could pick out, and I picked one with the most stuff (this book (signed with a super adorable drawing of my choice), the previous book, a tote bag, and much much more). And now, right before Christmas I received my package.

So, yeah, I immediately had to start reading it, and oh my, I loved it so much! I already am really interested in onomatopoeia, and in language stuff (which is also why I like James Chapman’s work so much), so this book is a valuable addition to my bookshelves.

The book is split up in various sections, from how people sneeze in Japanese (Hakuson), to how people clap in Arabic (Stah Stah), to how people cry in Dutch (Snik). These are just a few examples, of course there are many more sneezes, claps, cries, laughs and oh so much more. It is a delight to read it, you learn something, and you also have fun. Which is the best combination.

I had fun trying to say the sounds (which sound really silly), I guess I will search to how you should really say them. :)

Of course the book is filled with art (duh), and the art is really funny and nice. I loved the facial expressions during various of the sounds (from the way the tiger was looking at the woman who slipped over a banana in front of his home in the zoo, to how people look when they burp). At times I was laughing at that alone.

All in all, this is one book I would really recommend. If you are able to get it, be sure to buy it.

The Garden of Words: Memories of Cinema Official Art Book (Kotonoha no niwa: Memorizu Obu Shinema by Makoto Shinkai, CoMix Wave Films

I absolutely loved the Garden of Words movie, though it could have been better if it had TENMON as composer (sorry, I really hated that they didn’t have him in this movie, his music is so beautiful, and would have fitted better than the music they had now), but let’s not digress. The art in the movie was stunning, and so when I saw there was an art book, I knew I had to check it out.

And so I did. Dang, wow, this book is full of backgrounds out of the movie. It was just a feast for my eye to see all the lush backgrounds, the details, the colours, everything. I was absolutely drooling, and I so need to watch the movie again (though I will put a cd by TENMON up while I am watching). Makoto Shinkai really has a godly art skill (though his humans could use a bit work at times, though I have to say it is so much better than before), but the backgrounds, the details, it all makes up to it. Add to that the sad stories, which thanks to this art book I remembered, I remembered what happened to these 2 characters.

The pages switch at times with pages with Japanese on them (which I couldn’t really read), and then again one or more gorgeous backgrounds. While I found the Japanese words a bit of a bother, I would rather have a whole book with nothing but images, I think it still matches. It makes it a bit more like a photo album (with papers in-between the beautiful photographs to protect them).

I really loved this art book, and if you love Makoto Shinkai’s work you will too! Be warned, this book will suck you in, will keep you captivated and breathless until the last page!

After reading the Sheryl artbook, I decided to also grab my copy of Ranka Lee and read that before the year was over. :) And boy, I loved it. It was pretty, colourful, fun. I loved seeing Ranka again, though it seemed she really had some skimpy outfits. Still it was a beautiful book, and I would recommend it to everyone!

OMG, this was just sooooo adorable. <3 <3 Junko really makes the most amazing things. I would highly recommend this manga. It is sad, it is funny, it is cute, adorable and so much more. Be warned, the first four chapters are clean, but the last one shoots up to 18+ range.

4.5 stars, this was such a fun volume, though I wonder when Sui is able to speak, she does know some words, and apparently she also understands it when people talk to her, but mostly she is just silent. Which gives the manga a charm, but I just wish Sui would talk.

I saw this book here, read the blurb, and immediately wanted it.

And what a trip it was. Reapers, only not like you know them. I laughed a whole lot of times, the girl has a great attitude, and she needs that attitude since some people didn't like her being there.

I loved Uncle Mort, he was awesome. Loved how he always knew what she and
Spoilerlater her boyfriend
were up to.

Lots of action, comedy and ofcourse Death. :)
