Where the Woods Grow Wild by Nate Philbrick

4.0

Martin and Elodie venture too far into the woods, leading the reader on a merry, little adventure, in which quirky characters are encountered, and love and friendship save the day.
Where the Woods Grow Wild is refreshing in its simplicity. It doesn't build a mind-blowing plot or complicated laws of magic. It doesn't get bogged down with relationship drama. There is no attempt to be anything beyond what it is: a story about two young people trying to find each other. And while that story could be called slow at times, it's a nice reminder that not every YA novel needs to be filled with cliffhangers. Here's hoping that Nate Philbrick shares more stories with the world for years to come!
How to Speak Dolphin by Ginny Rorby

Pros: I learned more about autism, blindness, and dolphins.

Cons: The story was more about animal rights than any of those things, which really messed up my expectations. Also, the main character was hard to like--just a little too rude for my taste.
