The Trees by Percival Everett

I loved this book and never read a book in which the writing was so good. I know I've read books with awesome writing, but I can't think of it at this time. The fact that these white supremacists and racist white folks didn't know what was happening and if they were going to be next was so intriguing. Also, the officers being literal officers and the white folks still treating the officers like an N-word was so reminiscence of our life today.
Deadly Decisions by Kathy Reichs

This book in the series was just okay to me. I prefer the books with the character Ryan in them and in a more prominent way. This story followed the story of Temperance and her nephew. She was in between two cases and trying to find the identities of folks who were dead, and she was helping law enforcement on a case that dealt with a dangerous biker gang. She did this all while taking care of her nephew, who put her on a pedestal, and when she navigated from the pedestal he put her on, he was difficult to engage with. It was their banter that made this book not enjoyable for me. I enjoyed the part of the book where Temperance was showing people how to map a crime scene using quadrants to go through evidence to find remains that were relevant to the case she was working on with local law enforcement.

This may have been my favorite one in the series. The disability representation was worth it alone. I loved reading about the main character, how she believed she was okay, and how people around her tried to make her feel like she was less than because she had one arm. I loved her love for turtles, as I share that same love. I love how she joined a group of people who saw the value in her. The thing that breaks my heart with these books is how when the world is better than their world, they are pulled from it.
The Last Dragon on Mars by Scott Reintgen

When I say five stars, I mean it! I mean five stars! This was the best book I have read about dragons. I know this may change as I dive more into books with dragons, but wow! This book really drew me into the lore of how planets are created, how dragons are tied to those planets, and their connection with Dragoons. This was an amazing story of how a young boy struggling to live and survive on Mars stumbled into a pit that forever changed his life. I can't wait to learn how another planet in book two. Do they have a dragon? Are we gearing up for a battle?
Also, finding out the true identity of Jupiter was soooo good. I just loved this book and don't know what to say without spoiling it.

This comic has so much potential. I loved learning how colonization, greed, and capitalism can impact many communities. However, there were times in the writing where the flow of the writing was confusing or there were visible plot holes.

Octavia E. Butler had a special skill of understanding the world and the direction that we are currently on while she is now an ancestor. This book shook me to my core and had me fully immersed in the thought processes of the main character. I remember feeling some reminiscence in this book to the Patternist Series and think, wow! How she connects her books is beautifully done! I am nervous to read the Talents, but I hope to get to it by the end of the year.

Again, wow! Wow! Did I say wow! I have officially read all of his novels and I wonder what took me so long to read his debut, and I loved this. I loved how the love interest and the main character were able to be vulnerable in an odd situation. Cosby has a gift of writing really strong characters who do not blend into each other and become dynamic parts of the story. I love how his crime fiction always deals with high stakes and how the protagonist deals with the situation which their head high and no shits given.

I loved this book. I loved how real this book was about putting in your face how in many ways the world is and is not ready to fully accept queer folks. I think that using horror as the medium to tell this story was a choice I can get behind. The man with the damn cigarette really messed me up BTW. The struggle of being in the closet and being in the open was very real in the book. This book was everything to me. The only thing that does not make this 5 stars is because I think I was confused on the plot sometimes in the book.
The Art of Theft by Sherry Thomas

This 4th book in the series is a continued search for Moriarty. Certain characters true identities were revealed in this book. I still have mixed thoughts on lady Ingram. But overall I am still enjoying this book. The pace was a bit too slow for me but I’m still committed to this book series

Great introduction into the book and Temperance. The pace was slow and this book felt more character driven than plot because we need to know more about that characters for the series to be set up right. I am definitely continuing the series.
