I was admittedly disappointed! Not much relationship building between the FMC and MMC, and the entire premise was built on the FMC lying about basically everything! It was nerve-wracking! There definitely was some hot chemistry though! I liked Ember as a person— she was unapologetically ambitious and determined. I certainly didn’t agree with how she went about some of the decisions though.

This book could have and should have been AT LEAST 300 pages shorter. Oof. I appreciated how layered and multi-faceted ALLLLL the characters and ALLLLL plot lines were, but it came at a cost.

Would I read more by Peter Benchley? Absolutely. Would I dare say that there are some parts of this novel that pale against the movie? Unfortunately so. Really what frustrated me the most was the ending. I felt like I needed at least 5-10 more pages; not much but SOMETHING.

Jessica Joyce truly is a top-tier romance author for me. She can write so beautifully not only amount romantic relationships but platonic ones too. Dare I say that Georgia’s friendships nearly overshadowed her romantic attraction to Eli. NEARLY! Because then, to really round out the talent, Joyce can singe the page with the spice! I loved the representation here of therapy, anxiety, and growing-up/growing-apart angst. This story had humor and spice but real conflict and feelings.

Vibes > plot for this one. Probably helped a lot I know nothing about classical music. The villain storyline was trite. But the sexual tension was unreal so all evens out.

It’s weird to use the word “enjoy” so maybe I’ll say this book had me hooked. The research and reporting is well done, and I like the author’s technique of weaving in personal experiences (herself, and Crownsville employees and families). Might be because of the density of info or that I read it via audio but I had trouble keeping track with the timeline. Id absolutely recommend this book.
