i thoroughly enjoyed this book. one thing i adored the most is the character development, (totally was not screaming out of pure joy at the ending). this book sent me on an EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER. i was grinning like crazy one second, and just straight up shrieked out of frustration the next.

i did find the first half of the book a little irritating, so much that i did plan to give this a 3.5 or 4 rating, but the character development did make up for it. the imagery for this book was 100% beautifully done. st R's sounds like the most wonderful school (well it's a crazy rich boarding school what can i say) the characters are generally nice, they're real, and i absolutely loved the diverse characters. some parts of the book are somewhat cringy, so do brace yourself for that.

overall, pick up this book if you're looking for a fun read, in a mood for something royal core-ish, and want some brilliant world-building and use of words.

ahhh someone take this book away from me before i get cavities. it should be illegal for a book to be this cute <3 i found myself grinning like an idiot for a good 3 hours while reading this book. PEPPERJACK IS SO CUTE

all cuteness aside, i enjoyed this book a lot. it's a great fun, captivating and charming read. now all i want is to book a flight to NYC and enjoy family-owned delis. i love how the rivals-friends-lovers trope is developed. it's well thought out and leaves the reader satisfied. (and smiling maniacally at 2 in the morning :)) the thought process of Pepper and Jack is relatable to me, not cringy or cliché, and i adored the character development of the two. (and can we please talk about the mac n cheese + cupcake app? someone get me a Jack Campbell)

Emma Lord is definitely becoming one of my favorite YA authors. i really like the nod to pop culture in the book, it made the book really entertaining. and the desserts... i never had craved sweets more in my life. certainly gonna make the monster cake this weekend.

overall, amazing read, 100% recommend.

i was hugging this book to my chest and just stared at the ceiling in shock after finishing it. that's how you know the book was incredible. it puts you in so much awe that you're out of words in your vocabulary. none are big enough, beautiful enough to describe it.

it is a slow-medium pace book, so keep that in mind if you want to read it. the way Zusak threads the words together just pulls you into the writing. and even though it is quite a slow-paced and fairly long book, i never once felt bored or uninterested.

i love how the author showed us every aspects of Liesel's life - family, friends, the war,... everything was portrayed beautifully. and i also found the storytelling through Death's point of view very intriguing and it captivates the readers.

overall, a magnificent story that will surely keep itself a very special place in your heart.
