I love a forced proximity situation and this one was pretty fun. The addition of the marriage of convenience and their past was also good. I enjoyed the characters and their relationship.

I really didn't like the character at first, she was way too people pleasing and there just didn't seem to be a reason for it. I just found it really frustrating and then she was so dumb buying a whole ass farm from a women you've never met from a Facebook marketplace ad. The rest of the book was a bit better. I liked Pepper and Opals relationship and the autism representation. Overall, I liked it well enough but Opal was too annoying and frustrating at the beginning for me to really enjoy it.

This was a little too similar to Caraval at times but because I love Caraval so much I was willing to keep going. Overall I liked the premise but some of the trials felt a little too simple. The main character was a little annoying at times - too headstrong and not willing to ask for help even when it was the common sense thing to do. I liked the twist at the end but it wasn't surprising. The book was distinct enough Caraval from by the end and I'm intrigued enough to keep reading the series.
