I'll say it. I hate this collection. Almost every essay is about babies. I could not care less about babies. Outside of a few banger lines, there's nothing here that I would consider outstanding or even particularly artful. The only reason I picked this book up at all is because I'm in a class that requires it and the class is pass/fail so I don't have a grade to worry about if I bail on this book now.

This book is like Coraline meets What Remains of Edith Finch. It's so deliciously eerie and atmospheric. You can almost feel it leaking out of the pages and into the real world. I read it in a single day which I didn't know was a thing I'm still able to do. An instant favorite for me. This is my first V.E. Schwab book and I will be a fool if I let it be my last. I'm not sure I can look at a shadowy dark room the same way again. Something from this book will always be watching me.

This is such a beautiful book for showing autism in fantasy. There's so much going on between the characters and the world is so vivid. The author's note at the end actually made me cry. Wonderful story. The only think I'm mad about is the delayed release of the sequel. I would like more story now.

This is a debut novel. You can tell while reading it that it's a debut novel. There's nothing wrong with that, but it does mean that the story is a little bumpy. The disability rep is also not great and thoughtlessly plays into negative tropes, but at least this gets acknowledged in the newer edition's author's note. This book is a perfectly fine read, it's just in no way amazing or particularly noteworthy to me.

An utterly pointless ending to an utterly pointless series. I kept reading hoping to find the same magic as everyone else, but I can confidently say that after 3 books, nothing is there. The characters are obnoxious and the plot is nonexistent. This series is nothing but shallow science and philosophical drivel that sounds pretty, but ultimately doesn't mean anything. The covers are gorgeous though. I'll give it that.

This book is great if you're looking for a quick read, but overall not my genre. I didn't dislike it but I can't say I enjoyed it either. If you like narrative style memoir poetry, you'll probably like this book.

This is such a fun goofy and unserious book. It's heavier on banter than plot for sure, but still managed to deliver a twist I didn't see coming. Also, I support women's wrongs and can't wait for Evie's corruption arc.

Not my usual genre, but I really liked it! Darius is an easy character to like and read from.

I'm going to say it, I think the show is a lot better. The book is slow and boring and incredibly repetitive. It's just not enjoyable the way the show was. At first it was funny, but the same jokes get used over and over again until they become annoying. And honestly, most of these things wouldn't matter so much if the book was only 300-400 pages long, but instead it's about 500. There's too much unnecessary stuff bogging the story down and making the book run too long to be as boring as it is.
