Not my usual genre, but I really liked it! Darius is an easy character to like and read from.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 46%.
I'm going to say it, I think the show is a lot better. The book is slow and boring and incredibly repetitive. It's just not enjoyable the way the show was. At first it was funny, but the same jokes get used over and over again until they become annoying. And honestly, most of these things wouldn't matter so much if the book was only 300-400 pages long, but instead it's about 500. There's too much unnecessary stuff bogging the story down and making the book run too long to be as boring as it is.

Wow this was so beautiful. Leigh Bardugo does it again. This book was a little bit different from what she usually writes, but in a way that worked out really well. Her writing is just so vivid and beautiful and her characters are always memorable regardless of if you love or hate them.

I really wanted to like this book and I don't! The beginning yeets you right into the narrative with no context in a way that is completely disorienting. I almost DNFed it within the first 20 pages because of this. It does get better from there, but not by a lot. Chapters often feel disjointed as if they exist in a vacuum separate from the rest of the story. It takes all of 20 pages for Valencia and Cade to go from literal enemies to in love with each other, which was infuriating and made their relationship incredibly shallow. Two whole authors but no one here can figure out pacing. Overall the book was pretty lackluster. The plot was barely there. There were plenty of cool concepts but the execution doesn't tie them together well. The trans and disability rep is fine and what initially drew me to this book, but a story can't only be good rep. There does also have to be an actual story and this book barely has one.

I cried. I'm not sure what else there is to say. This was a fantastic ending to the series. Though there were some characters I was iffy about in earlier books, they did pull themselves together and I am going to miss everyone now that it's over. The crying part was rather unexpected. Do brace yourself. Best of luck to the horse breeding business (iykyk).

The only thing stopping this from being a 5 star read is that some of the Tessa/Carrick stuff still feels a little shaky, like the dynamic is almost there but not quite. Tessa also still isn't as proactive as I would like. Aside from that though, this is was so much fun to read and once again kept me up at night. I am convinced that something romantic is going on between Harristan and Quint despite having absolutely no proof. Rian pulling a Sturmhond (iykyk) was expected but still delightful to find out. Yes. More please. I must remain fed.

Delightfully hilarious. I'm a devoted Jane Eyre hater but this adaptation of it slapped. Great for both haters and lovers of the original book. The story is told through "screenshots" of texts, message boards, tweets, emails, and other social media platforms, so it's a super fast read.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I'd like to see more from Tessa later on because all she seems to do here is react to other characters rather than taking her own actions. I liked the complexities of right vs wrong and how everything ends up being a gray area with no easy answers. For my Brigid Kemmerer rating, I rank this above Cursebreakers but below Forging Silver Into Stars. We'll see if the rest of the series changes that though.
