A Drop of Venom by Sajni Patel

This was anice surprise. Not a retelling that follows the original too closely. Maybe more of an alternate storyline. I'm not well versed in the Medusa myth. This gets a little dark. Physical and serial abuse and mutilation of women. I do like the way it resolved the romance though I always want an HEA. I also love how we see how rumors and complaints grow into myths and legends.

Started to have a plot longer than one chapter towards the end. Bit it was interesting seeing behind secondary characters thoughts.

I binge red the second half of this in a day. 3am sleep time. The first half took me two days, so it was basically due to library due dates and other reads that this took so long. I haven't been absorbed into an epic fantasy in awhile. I missed the feeling.
Anyway, about the book. The prophecy made for an interesting plot point for everything to hinge around. Lots of characters, so many at first seem pointless. Then you start to see the little things that regular people do build character, affect decision-making, and eventually change minds and actions. I'm a little surprised this was a debut novel. We ended on some cliffhangers. I already love Corban, he was easy. I am desperate to know how Veradis deals with everything going forward.Cywen has to come back and exact her revenge. What will the Banished Lands be like now that all their kings are either dead or working for the bad guy? Will Nathair have a moment of realization? When will Elyon swoop down and finally join the fight? Looking forward to the next one.

This is like Dexter with animals. It is interesting having a female serial killer. And the conserving to animals, natural instincts and self reflection was cool but went by too quick for me. Overall enjoyable.

Ooh we got some background on Loid's childhood. Your making new connections unexpectedly. And I really enjoyed the bonus chapters. But overall another bunch of disconnected chapters.

So finally finished the last 10% of this book after a bit of a long pause. I was thoroughly enjoying this one as much as the others. Speeding through it until we got to the aftermath of the mother part. It just seemed to lose steam after that major plot point was done. Then we were back to school trivial stuff and the confusion of what was going through Scythe's head. Even having finished it, I don't understand what exactly his plan was. Honestly, from the beginning I think this character was too complex for the author. Maybe the wrong words. But the mafia aspects were never handled with any kind of believability. Then his thoughts, actions were clear as mud. This being 'his' book should've cleared all of that up but it did only a partial job for me. IT explained osmewhat why he is the way he is but not why he was so against her being their mate. And even afterwards why he left the way he did. What was he trying to accomplish. The dragon mate made a bit more sense here though. Unfortunately, that cliffhanger ending was also confusing because what was she trying to do? Also, wondering how the last mate is going to be handled. Anyway, this is my first Why Choose in a looooong time. And I think the first dark romance one. So I am intrigued to see where this goes.

This was cute. I was a little slow getting into it but once I did I was having a good time. This is all the fall vibes. 100% autumnal. I like that we got plus sized characters. The spice was definitely well done. The chemistry I think was thrown off a little by the time travel aspect. And maybe it's because I haven't read the firt two books in this series, but I was confused by the stage magic versus real magic versus witchcraft. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this cosy read. Definitely want to read the others in the series.
