Dr. Roxanne “Annie” Price is an Ornithologist. Between jobs and still living with her ex as they navigate their separation she arrives in Crane Cove early to help her fave cousin (book 1 FMC) prepare for her wedding.
Jordan “Jordy” Taylor is a football star. He’s also an aging football star worried about his contract. When his agent suggests he get out of town (while she works on said contract), he heads up to Crane Cove to help the groom (book 1 MMC) who is also one of his very best friends.
Months ago at the couple’s engagement party, fresh off her break up, Annie propositioned Jordy. Things got started but when he realized she’d been drinking he stopped after a kiss. They’ve both been thinking about it since. Jordy has been threatened from all angles about messing with Annie. Annie’s been warned (and knows from the tabloids) about Jordy’s less than committed dating style. And OF COURSE, the bride and groom neglected to tell each other they’d offered Annie and Jordy use of the lighthouse for their stays in Crane Cove.
After a very abrupt (and almost violent but hilarious) surprise reunion, Annie and Jordy find themselves beyond pleased to be sharing a home for the next few weeks. Soon they’ve entered into a mutually beneficial physical relationship, with lots of rules Annie set to protect her heart. However, much to Annie’s secret delight, Jordy takes every opportunity to bend them with kissing that doesn’t immediately go further, and break them with ritual hand holding.
Jordy’s attraction to and feelings for Annie leapt off the page. For you HistRom fans, he’s got major Rupert Carsington energy. If that doesn’t work and you haven’t been living under a rock, think Travis Kelce being adorably blown away by Taylor Swift’s talent. Jordy loves her eyes, when she wears fancy green dresses and lingerie or his t-shirts, he finds comfort in her tummy pooch, and could listen to her talk about birds for years without getting bored. He’s devoted to her joy and success both personally and professionally, even when he has to wait while she gets what she deserves.
Annie is smart, funny, caring, and we can all take some lessons from her astute and introspective self awareness. She’s also bonkers attracted to Jordy and once she lets herself relax into their relationship learns how to let herself have a really great time.
This book is low angst, super duper hot, laugh out loud funny, and nails its tropes.
You can totally read this as a standalone but I recommend starting from the beginning, the series focuses on 4 guys who are the most devoted of best friends and I don’t think you’ll want to miss any of their moments. Speaking of, I loved book 1 in this series, Keyed Up. It has an apology so good it inspired a post about apologies in romance. Also I think Estep must be a HistRom fan because I get that same joyful fantasy vibe from her writing.
