She Is Not Invisible by Marcus Sedgwick
3.0
A fun little thriller story about coincidence, but I think the story is about the daily challenges of a blind girl and showing that she is neither stupid nor weak but strong and capable As someone who has never had the opportunity to spend time with the blind this was an eye opener of sorts of what it's like to be blind and how the "sighted" should treat them. So three stars for the story but five for writing about a character whose condition is largely ignored or misrepresented in literature. My wish is that more authors will take Sedgwick's queue and give readers a chance to learn.
Coraline by Neil Gaiman
4.0
Written in the tradition of C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narna, Coraline is a good, yet creepy, fantasy book for children that may leave them a bit spooked, yet a fun and fast read for adults.
