I suspect rereading the first books would have been helpful but I'm not patient enough for that. paolini's writing is just descriptive enough without feeling overly flowery. Some good character development from the first books and living in Murtagh's torment from his past. Not sure how I feel about the ending set up for more books with azalgur/draumur and nasuada romance. Very cheesy 'he is dying' ending cut to 'Being cared for by the love interest'
Well basically a modern epic, I don't think there is a word out of place, unnerving descriptions of modern emotional states and just how we are all more than we seem
I think I could re-read this many times over. The heartbreak of it all and how many characters failed each other and who was able to forgive and at what cost ....
Heartwarming and sad, love and loss, etc etc. Sweet story but fell a little flat when trying to round out the characters for me. Some of the plot points were a little run through by the end like seeing their dead loved ones or book characters in real life, or aleisha's relationship with her mom. For some reason this feels like it wants to be a movie more than a book.
Ultimately true crime - especially one focused on such a broad time and plot - becomes overburdened trying to display a real story. And that is even regardless of criticisms of criminal glorification / victim consent. This is an incredibly informative book, but the humanity of the victims is lost at some point. Dry writing, straightforward, I struggled through it but determined to finish. Would not recommend.
Even though the essay chapters are fairly stand-alone, I found myself enjoying the second half of the book far more. Always accessible writing but I didn't always find myself moved or engaged. The world's largest ball of paint, the kaua-i-o-o (particularly with audio of the call), and googling strangers were the most poignant imo. Thanks Mr Green, until next time
Poetry as ecological review as poetry. I hope this book's reputation grows, the love poured into the words carried me through the peaks and valleys. I think the content and connections flowed very well but due to the nature of trying to REcombine two worlds, there were times I had to readjust reading styles. There were variations in prose as more scientific/sanitized descriptions versus more poetic/overarching themed descriptions.
