Well as dark as I would expect and several of the most disturbing scenes I've read in a long time.

I am curious to read these translators take on other russian classics, I found the writing easier to follow than other russian translations I've read.

She had me at researching trash. There is still dense modern writing after all and she is todays favorite and hopefully tomorrow's. She unflinchingly faces the stereotypical and the fantastical ways that we disengage with unpalatable modern forces, and synthesizes her ideas about why the whole spectrum of disengagement is important. Last chapter is denser than the rest and needs extra care

A writing style i fell in love with so quickly ... what a family to witness ... and an insight into strict muslim culture that americans have been associating with terrorism for over 20 years. What a loss of possibilities!!

Not exactly nuanced but a fine and easy travel read. Gory descriptions and some surface-level racial discourse. Plenty of copaganda of changing things from the inside

Well he sure had a lot to say. Labor of love. A literal weight off of my shoulders to finish. I unironically loved the second epilogue except for the fact that it was the second epilogue and i just wanted to finish this beast
