The Year Shakespeare Ruined My Life by Dani Jansen

It was a really cool, lightheartes read. The conflicts were easily resolved and new conflicts introduced weren't hard to follow or seemed out of place. I quite enjoyed it.

2 or 2.5 /5 stars would be the more accurate rating but I was like, what the heck, let's round it up to 3. Tal really annoyed me, especially at the start. I couldn't care less about any of the other characters. I was thinking of dropping this, thinking it would get better, but then I hit the 50% in mark and I was far too deep in it so I stayed. The ending was better than expected, considering my expectations dropped lower and lower as I progressed through the book, I guess that's not surprising. There wasn't really any plot twist I cared about. The magic part of this book didn't really play a huge part like I was expecting it to, like yeah it was a huge deal because of their history or whatever but in the end, the magic was just fire and sending letters to his mother. But I understand since it's always hard to make a great fantasy if it's a standalone. The worldbuilding is hard to do when you're limited to only a few hundred pages.
Hani and Ishu's Guide to Fake Dating by Adiba Jaigirdar

I really wish I enjoyed this more. Maybe being anxious the whole day because of the first day of school contributed to me not to like this as much, but nevertheless, it didn't really make me feel anything. Hani's friends took up most of the book and I just got so annoyed everytime they were there. When that conflict was resolved, I was just like, "fucking finally." The romance between Hani and Ishu wasn't really... romantic, I guess? I love fake dating trope so I had a certain expectation, the execution of the fake dating in here was... boring, to summarize it. There wasn't any thrill with the fake dating. And then the miscommunication trope got added,
where Hani started avoiding Ishu because she was developing feelings
, it just made it worse.

I've been so excited to read this! I heard about this back in, like, May or maybe even earlier. The cover was mostly what drawn me into it.

It's 4 and a half stars for me but I'm rounding it up to 5 stars because that's what it deserves; I just feel like it's a bit lacking in some parts but mostly I enjoyed it, especially considering it's a debut novel. Patiently waiting for Ryan Douglass' next novel!

It was nice to see this was mostly in Ushio's point if view. I had always windered what he thinking. Nothing really exciting happened, as this was just short stories from their lives, so I'm not rating it 5 stars.

Sakae and Shiatara was definitely the most mature couple out of the three (Kei/Ushio, Shin/Tatsuki) and I love that about them. The conflicts were nicely executed and nicely resolved. I was hesitant to start this because I didn't like Sakae, quite the opposite actually, back in the Side Profiles and Irises novel; imagine my surprise when halfway through the Block It Out novel, I was already attached to Sakae. Michi Ichiho has definitely a way of making you love even the most unlikeable character.

Sadly, I'm not really a fan of flashbacks so I think that was definitely a minus point for me so I can't rate it 5 solid stars.

Kotaro fell short for me so I think that's why the love triangle also did. Because of that I was so hesitant to give this a 4 star because I didn't really care for it nearly as much as I did with the 3 volumes of Yes, No, or Maybe light novels and volume 1 which was Side Profiles and Irises. But part two happened with Kei and Ushio and it excited me again so I feel like this deserves 4 stars. I'm excited to see what the 3rd volume would be like since it's a new couple, Sakae and Shitara.

dude this was so boring compared to the first two novels. The plot was so bland. Rating it four stars since I still love this series. It had so much potential but I think the politics of it really got to me so I didn't really like it. I was looking forward to find out more about Ushio and I even thought this novel would have him as the main voice, not that I don't like Kei as the voice, but you know...

I really wish I'd liked this more. Or even almost as much as I loved the Good Omens TV adaptation. It was also like this with Coraline. I feel like Neil Gaiman's stories are always better told on TV than in books. It's just very hard to follow for me. I wouldn't get half of the stuff here if I hadn't watched the TV show first. I'm so excited for Good Omens season 2.

Mostly, I didn't like this as much because there was really little of Crowley and Azirphale. Most of the book didn't really feature them; they were there at the start, very little in the middle, and a little more but still little at the end. I also preferred TV Adam Young, Anathema Device, Newt Pulsifer, and Mr. & Mrs. Young than Book Adam, Anathema, Newt, and Mr. & Mrs. Young. Some of the minor characters, like Greasy Johnson and gang: I didn't care for. There were few golden moments though, I forgot what they were but I went "Oh this wasn't in the show. It's really good though."
