There was nothing special about this book, really. I even saw myself get annoyed with Elena and Nico several times. The ending was cute, I have to admit. People on twitter and tiktok hyped this so much I was expecting way more but I've read better books like this in Wattpad to be honest.

This was so good. I'M SORRY I HAVE A LIMITED VOCABULARY SO THAT'S THE ONLY THING I CAN SAY BUT JUST???? It was so good. It was great, fantastic. The writing, especially. Oh I'm so weak for the writing. This book was already good but each page just got better and better and better until you reach the end and you want MORE but you're also satisfied with what you've got because it was just so good that nothing felt forced, hurried, or stretched out. I never cared about Beauty and the Beast but this book made me think twice about that.

Dude, I was going to rate this a 4 but my GOD did the ending just got me hook, line and sinker. It bored me a bit in the middle because there were too much drama between Hart and Robin but it was worth it. For the ending, and all the other parts except for the ones that bored me, it was all so worth it. I love this and I love this and I will continue loving this. Can I also just say how much I love the writing??? There were so many great quotes!! Like, for one, "She won’t be his ruin, and she has denied him for his sake and cried her eyes out over it, and you dare to condemn her because she doesn’t also destroy herself in the process?" How can you NOT love this book? It was such an amazing read. I also appreciated how even though there was misogyny and homophobia, it was only in little parts.

....what do you even say to that. I'm speechless. I need more. I really was not expecting ANY of that. I need to lie down and process everything I just read.

2 stars if not for the line "Ronan's second secret was Adam" which deserved an additional one star. I started having higher expetations, not high but higher than my expectations for the first book, for this book and it was going well, I think, until it wasn't anymore. Everyone just started being (more) annoying;
for one, I wish Gansey would stop saying "I wish people didn't see me as just my money" like I would kill to switch places with you, you ungrateful ass. If you wanna be poor so bad, be my guest. I wish Adam didn't say, "Nice, Blue. Gansey was right. You can be a raging feminist." because that was just, no. I wish Blue would stop being herself because everything about her annoys tf out of me. I don't care if you think that was misogynistic. Open your eyes, people! She's fucking annoying! She kissed Noah while she was leading Adam on, she didn't think about Adam before doing so. Then, she had THAT moment with Gansey just right after they talked about Adam. And she was right that she had the choice if she doesn't want to kiss Adam but that anger was misplaced because she knows Adam had a point. Adam made it clear he liked her and I wish she did the bare minimum and told him the truth, especially after she realized she doesn't really have feelings for Adam at all.
But I still like Ronan and that's the only reason why I'm continuing this stupid series.

I've dropped this book twice so I think my standards for this was so low that I was pleasantly surprised when it as actually good, much better than expected. It just really takes time to get invested in it because the pacing is agonizingly slow. I actually just started this because of a fanart I saw. Man, I hate the power of fanarts.

I always thought middle-grade books were the best but this is my first queer middle-grade book and I don't know that middle-grade books can get BETTER. So excited for the author's next book!!

I didn't like how a lot of the conflicts were handled and the ending was meh. I kinda cared for Jason at the start
but then got turned off when I found out he was a cop, son of one but still
. I did like Luke a lot but not until the end because he seemed too good towards Matt, I wasn't expecting him to actually care for Matt. Speaking of, I didn't really care for Matt.
Then they introduced Cassidy but she ended up being such a really minor character and only appeared for 5 paragraphs, I thought she'd be a more important character.

I thought the gang part of this would have more significance
but the biggest thing that happened, aside from their father getting shot which doesn't count because it happened off-page, was getting shot at by the Donovans.
This Is Kind of an Epic Love Story by Kacen Callender

Though this has been in my TBR for so long, the main reason why I finally read it was because I found Kacen Callender was the author of Felix Ever After, which I read last year. That book made me feel things and I thought why not give this a try. And you know what? Kacen Callender is officially one of my favorite authors. Plus knowing they have a thing for childhood friends to lovers? Yep. Definitely an author I'd stick through thick and thin with.
