 ˗ˋˏ ♡Thank you Nachi Aono and NetGalley♡ ˎˊ˗

On a whim i seen this on netgalley and loved the art style of the book cover and seen it was a read now book so obviously i had to read it now… or yesterday as of writing this review.

The art is so stunning, every page you turn is just so darn cute and is easy on the eyes i love it. I love the storyline with the magic but i feel it needs to be having a bit more information on the magic system however this is only the first book so it could devlop in time. I would love to learn more about the war that is happening and what is all intels and maybe during one of the volumes we actually get to see it. I also like the fact that you have to kiss someone to heal them… it is something different.

There are a few things i did not like in this though, the fact that the nurse who is a trans women is being called a pervert by one of the students, the nurse having to kiss these children is a little odd. There was also a scene where one of the 10 year old children are “naked” i say it like that cause her hair is hiding most the parts.
Our Violent Ends by Chloe Gong

“These violent delights have violent ends”

This is the second installment to Our Violent Delights which is a Romeo & Juliet retelling. I wont be spoiling this for you nor the first book, as long as you know what happens to the real story or Romeo & Juliet you are all good.

Chloe Gong’s writing is very beautiful and elegant which makes me sad on my rating for said book, however saved me from lowering it even more. There were a few cute moments between Roma & Juliette but i still disliked their relationship. I think my favorite characters which also helped my rating would be Benedikt, Marshall and Kathleen. I loved how they devloped the story and stood out rather than making the main characters all about them.

“Nothing in this world is complicated, only misunderstood”

“I would rather the two of you not burn the world down each time you choose each other”

I was listening to this while reading along with the physical book, i did not rate off the fact of the narrator but if i did then i would have lowered it even more. The narrator was not for me, she made most to all the men sound like they were all whispering and when they would “yell” she would whisper yell??. For me i have a hard time keeping track of characters when there are more to name than what is on one hand and this book had that.

One of the things i wish this book has was an area where when they use different languages then they should reference somewhere what it would mean for people like me who have no idea what is being said. There is also lots of government based things which can be find but for me i could not deal with it and also this so called “monster thing” i was over that already AND kinda over the whole story in general. It also felt like there was just too much happening and trying to keep track of things i was confused.

“A rose is a rose, even by antoher name,” he whispered “But we choose whether we will offer beauty to the world, or if we will use our thorns to sting.”

The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi

“When we’re afraid, we lose all sense of analysis and reflection. Our fear paralyzes us. Besides, fear has always been the driving force behind all dictators’ repression.”

I had no clue about the Islamic Revolution and the history it had. Thanks to the Sibs bookclub for having this as their book for January, I might not have picked this book up otherwise. Usually when it comes to graphic novels i can devour them within a day or two, however this took me some time to read. The topic’s were quite difficult to envople but was also outstanding to say the least but be warned they can be emotionally heartbreaking and make you feel things you did not know you could feel while reading a book. Reading about Marjane’s life with the war, drug use, suicide and just trying to find her way in life was something i did not think would have a strain on my feelings but it did.

“I rushed to the living room to protect myself from I don’t know what, behind my best friend, a book.”

The only down fall i had with this was mainly the middle of the story when Marjane went to live in Eruope before moving back home. I felt a bit bored and not very interested in what was happening, even though i know for a fact if we did not have that storyline we would not have the rest of this story which brings us around in to a happier ending even with all that has happened in the life of Marjane Satrapi.

“To educate myself, I had to understand everything. Starting with myself, me, Marji, the woman.”

I feel many young people would benefit from this story and the impact it has, i mean i am still feeling the feels and i finished this a few days ago.
