Our Violent Ends by Chloe Gong
2.5
“These violent delights have violent ends”
This is the second installment to Our Violent Delights which is a Romeo & Juliet retelling. I wont be spoiling this for you nor the first book, as long as you know what happens to the real story or Romeo & Juliet you are all good.
Chloe Gong’s writing is very beautiful and elegant which makes me sad on my rating for said book, however saved me from lowering it even more. There were a few cute moments between Roma & Juliette but i still disliked their relationship. I think my favorite characters which also helped my rating would be Benedikt, Marshall and Kathleen. I loved how they devloped the story and stood out rather than making the main characters all about them.
“Nothing in this world is complicated, only misunderstood”
“I would rather the two of you not burn the world down each time you choose each other”
I was listening to this while reading along with the physical book, i did not rate off the fact of the narrator but if i did then i would have lowered it even more. The narrator was not for me, she made most to all the men sound like they were all whispering and when they would “yell” she would whisper yell??. For me i have a hard time keeping track of characters when there are more to name than what is on one hand and this book had that.
One of the things i wish this book has was an area where when they use different languages then they should reference somewhere what it would mean for people like me who have no idea what is being said. There is also lots of government based things which can be find but for me i could not deal with it and also this so called “monster thing” i was over that already AND kinda over the whole story in general. It also felt like there was just too much happening and trying to keep track of things i was confused.
“A rose is a rose, even by antoher name,” he whispered “But we choose whether we will offer beauty to the world, or if we will use our thorns to sting.”
