Did you ask for a hockey x monster smut MMF trope mash up? Probably not. But this needs to be on your Xmas TBR. It’s light, was a good palette cleanser after so many long and dark reads! And his jizz tastes like peppermint so there’s that 🤣🤣

Poppy’s writing style is fantastic, ⭐️⭐️⭐️ for that. Poppy was also clear on the triggers and tropes specifically that this is not a good example of healthy, or real D/s or S/m relationships so that’s not the issue either.  I just didn’t get the brat label. Ana rightly didn’t want to be a mafia wife. She didn’t want to be raped. She didn’t want to be beaten. She didn’t want to be sold off like a used car by men who thought she was “just a warm pussy”. So she’s subjected to 100% non-con “taming” that felt repetitive, and without sensible motivation. Angelo keeps on about how he’s obsessed with her, wants to protect her, she’s precious, yeets a bunch of people that have hurt her… but he’s over there dishing out more psychological abuse than her physical abusers, stealing her power and independence like the rest of them if not more so. Maybe it’s me, maybe I’m the problem.

Once you’d begun to toy with the very fabric of your own sanity, all you could do is grab a sled and slide down that steep slope like the Devil himself was on your back.”

And BOYYYYY was this a steep ride! Layers! This book has so many dang layers, it touches on so many social injustices, issues, challenges the patriarchy, religious constructions …and I think even maybe a jab at the Zon itself 🫣 All while being DVP’ed and choked.

Absolutely loved this. I love a book with substance, with grit and a whole lot of angry smut. It sent me insane, picking at the crust of my childhood and then rearranged the wound into a pretty painting.

I had such hopes for this since I loved the Layla Fae books in this series. Calling a clit a “hardening knob” and a “swelling member” while also referring to her butt as a “bottom” and the jolting word choice in the entire book has to amount to being singularly some of the worst dialogue I’ve ever read.

Just didn’t vibe with this one, felt flat, emotionless and jilted after about 8%

A fun little monster holiday novella for sure! It’s cute and cringey and entirely unserious and I really enjoyed the read. This read felt like goofing around with my best friend 🖤
