Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

Picking this up bcs I watched 1 reels that said it's the spiciest of the Bridgerton series, and oh boy itu didn't disappoint ππΌπ
Light and easy reading, I love the banter at the first half. The sec nd half was a bit down bcs I don't like pushy Michael and inconsistent Frannie. Still enjoyable, tho.
On the bright side, the matter was delicately handled and the ending is satisfactory. Esp the epilogues. Yes, plural. I love how it explored deeply into their feelings and the acceptance.
If you're into the male character who madly in love with her but she has no idea and she's your cousin's wife so you created a reputation by being wicked and seductive to cover your feelings for her bcs you love her and your cousin, give this book a goππΌ

Disclaimer: I'm well aware with the "drama" surrounding this book before it even debut. The negative bomb review, and personal chat getting out of hands leading to misinformation. I've stated that I'm willing to give the author benefit of the doubt and would still read the book despite what everyone saying. So, this review is objectively about the story itself.
Okay so where do we start.... There are sooo many things I wanted to talk about and they're not nice.
Let's start with the main character, Ruying. I can't stand her. She has the deathly power, PLENTY I MEAN PLENTY OF TIMES to prove herself and support her hometown cause but she didn't. When literally her sister begged her to. But the moment the colonizer (yes, it's a colonizer romance) (he didn't even try hard enough) talked to her, she used the power for the colonizer's side. In the name of survival, protection and greater good, she was soooo naive and simply stupid. It doesn't make sense and there are no chemistry between them. I don't like the symphatizer gaze throughout the book on the colonizer's side. It doesn't sound right. Like "I believe you have power better than me, you're able to protect me and my family, and you're not evil like everyone else" then surprise when the said colonizer turned out to be the same. She would always choose their romance before anything else.
Idk the ending didn't make it better.... About the freaking time. That's just logical and should've been done waaayyy before to make the story better.
And the writing is kinda repetitive and the proverbs were oftenly out of place. It could've been written better and to have the enemy using the proverbs in between sentences are also nope.
Idk if it's wise using Romans as the enemy while mendling with the historical chinese with Sino (?) idk why don't u created a new fantasy place rather than using a real life place (?)
It doesn't give a nice aftertaste.
The star is for the gorgeous cover!!!! π
Thank you so much for the arc in exchange for an honest reviewπ«Άπ½ hopefully the next installment could've been better written.
It's a solid 5β Three Summers is a powerful book about girlhood, coming of age, family and sisters. It was also laced with sadness, grief, and all the bad things war ever given to humankind.
I don't think writing a middle grade memoir is easy especially when it comes to the hard times the author and her nation had to face. It has those valuable self journey I always love in a middle grade book, but it doesn't erase the tone on how war wrecked families and bonds and people.
Genre: romantasy Subplot: Soap opera (affectionate)
I might start charge these characters as they live rent me in my head
On a more serious note, I will die on this hill: ππΌππΌππΌ Foul Heart Huntsman is a complete conclusion of Secret Shanghai series. This is how you write a universe where ppl are care with your characters. I LOVE LOVE (I can't stress this enough) characters with personality (who doesn't, but not everyone managed to do so). It gave enough spotlights to everyone involved (yes, including u four Juliette, Roma, BenMars). I basically love their dynamics. I miss them already. Can we have more spin offs please? (Handling Chloe beribed money).
Plot wise there so many moves, and I like the way Chloe Gong deliver her sentiments on the Japanese invasion and the international settlement in 1920s-1930s Chinese. It's neatly written enough to be enjoyable.
The marketing said if you love Paola Santiago series you'll love this. I love Paola Santiago and I picked this book up, and It didn't disappoint me.
It's my bad but I didn't realise it was a second installment of a series. It was quite confusing at first but as I went through the pages I can imagine what the first book was about.
It's been a while since I read a middle grade book and I enjoyed it. I love the culture exploration, the family dynamic, the mystery and siblings/ best friends frenemies.
I love how it explored the sentiment and judgement of superstition and culture around Mexican families.
I didn't prepare that it's going to be so angst at the end of the book :(((
I definitely would pick up the book once it's released.
If you love middle grade fantasy rich with cultures and coming of age, give it a go.
I love it With gripping plot line combined with atmospheric writing, A Crane Among Wolves is unputdownable.
I love the characters' depth and dynamic. How the main characters have their own motives and backstory. Their flaws, naives, and growth. The romance felt natural. Iseul and Daehyun have my full support π₯Ί The sister bonds, THE FOUND FAMILY. OH, HOW I HAVE SOFT SPOT FOR FOUND FAMILY trope. I grow attached to them, and worry for them. Even the side characters (shout out to Madam Yul, and Wonsik).
I don't mind the plot overall. However, I think the revealing of the assassin (Nameless Flower) could be better written.
I adore how well researched this book is. I love authors whose story did the history justice.
If you're into Korean history, colossal drama, murder mystery, light and soft romance with great characters development and found family dynamic, read this!!!!
INI BAGUS. Jadi ngerti sirkel dalem gereja kyk apa. Conservative Christian is not a topic I stumble upon often and I enjoy the novelty.
Jarang bgt ada novel bahasa Indonesia yang tokoh utamanya Kristen konservatif dan nyeritain keadaan gereja + berada dalam keluarga yang sangat religius. And I do like the writing. Jadi belajar banyak hal baru tanpa ngerasa digurui.
Buku ini tipis. Bisa diselesaikan dalam sekali duduk. But there are LAYERS of topics to discuss.
I LOVE IT!!!! IT'S DEFINITELY BETTER THAN THE FIRST BOOK. Agree with how Joan He said it supposed to be one thick book (bcs now I have to buy TWO BOOKS, not complaining since the cover's gorgeous) and best read RIGHT AFTER STRIKE THE ZITHER.
The pace is fast, straightforward and to the point ππΌ it's war and strategies all over the places... With different bodies, different mindsets, more enemies.
I was skeptical with the 'twist' in book 1, but book makes it so much better and I think the writing is getting better too.
The angst omg THE ANGST THE YEARNING I HATE YOU CROW AND ZHYPER BUT I LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH
The bittersweet end... It left me wondering....
It's clear but I need to remind ppl that Joan He knows what she's talking about, we could see that this is a well researched book. Definitely worth to read.
