Three Summers: A Memoir of Sisterhood, Summer Crushes, and Growing Up on the Eve of the Bosnian Genocide by Laura L. Sullivan, Amra Sabic-El-Rayess

adventurous challenging dark emotional funny hopeful sad tense fast-paced

5.0

It's a solid 5⭐ Three Summers is a powerful book about girlhood, coming of age, family and sisters. It was also laced with sadness, grief, and all the bad things war ever given to humankind.

I don't think writing a middle grade memoir is easy especially when it comes to the hard times the author and her nation had to face. It has those valuable self journey I always love in a middle grade book, but it doesn't erase the tone on how war wrecked families and bonds and people.

I learnt so SOOOOO much from this book. And I'm glad this book found me 🩷🩷🩷 I was not well informed with the Bosnia genocide before. The nove ty this book brought is eye opening. I read the author's note and it moved me. To read is to resist 🩷🍉

We're ending hatred by humanising the dehumized.

I love LOVE this book and I think everyone should read it. EVERYONE!!!!
