Finished in one sitting π
It's SO FUNNY
I'm sorry you had to go through all those racism, Huda. But I love how you handle them.
It depicts how Americans see the Moslems and it's frustrating.
Thank you for giving your much needed voice upon this matter.

This is an enjoyable finished-in-one-sitting illustration book.
It's suitable for everyone who has difficulties fitting in. Especially if you're a minority. In this case, a Muslim living in America.
A coming of age book with believable character development. I like the process and the honesty this book brought π«Άπ½

I keep hearing good reviews of this book, so much so that I decided to pick this up and prove it myself.
The reviews were proven to be true. It's a fictional book that feels like a nonfiction. I was convinced that Evelyn Hugo was with us, she was one of those megastar celebrity icon who stirred drama as much as admiration.
I love the storytelling. It shows how complicated a character could be. It has all those morally grey aspects which was very humane.
This is the first book of TJR that I read, and I'll certainly looking forward to her other works.
And yes, TRUE, it's 'the wife' that stole the spotlight but Evelyn Hugo has known this. So yeah, a page turning behind the camera storyπ I love it.

A sharp insight on how we perceive sexuality from within ourselves and wider community. It opens the idea of fluidity in sexuality, and how some normativities could be harmful towards certain groups. It tackles lots of philosophical questions in terms of basic understanding about sexuality, desires, sexual act, consents, how to talk about sexuality with children, technology and erotica. It also gave a solid summarisation at the end.
THE ILLUSTRATIONS ARE TO DIE FOR. It makes the understanding much much more easier. The points were straightforward and easy to digest. Super page turning.

GIDEON BEING A LOVELY CINNAMON ROLL: β β β β
Welp, my mind's in shambles right now and I honestly have no idea what to write. I enjoy this book so much more than TA6.
However,
If you're not into TA6, but think this sequel might make you like it, you won't. It has similar tone and everything, but with much much more complicated characters development.
Oke let's get to the things I enjoy:

Oke let's get to the things I enjoy:
- Callum Nova was never my favourite character, but somehow I like this version of him better. Drunk, and never trying so hard to manipulate or whatsoever anymore. He used his ability as allies. And on the perfect timing. And how many times I tried to hate him, what he said frequently made solid points.
- An Indonesian here, I didn't expect the book to tackle the issues between developing countries and developed countries. When I read some Asian inspired book, it mostly East Asian centered (developed countries), and it's nice to see the voices of our silly island countries represented. I love how Olivie mixed the current issues with what she had in her book. And yes, I love Belen (I hate you, Olivieπ).
- I love Libby's arc. All of it.
- Nicco Tristan duo remains superior.
- The audiobook is heavenly.
Things I'm not sure what to feel:
- Reina.
- Dalton.
- Quantum and multiverse ideas.
- CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT ATLAS BLAKELY MOTIVES ARE?
Things I hate:
- The gala: wasted
- Erza Fowler arc: wasted (I mean he lived up to such a great power, and in the end it doesn't mean anything. He did NOTHING
- The forum: wasted
I hate cliffhangers. And yes I'll wait for the next book bcs you can't leave me like this.
Jakarta Sebelum Pagi by Ziggy Zezsyazeoviennazabrizkie
The first book that I read in 2023 is super ENJOYABLE.
Ziggy has this way of making my reading experience uncannily fun. Her book gave different vibes each time, and this one is all giggles and laughs, and fluffy and sweet, and sad and melancholy (no disturbing parts, fortunately).
As a babik herself, IM SOLD ALL THE WAY.
It was unique with varied characterization. Somehow, It was rich with life lessons far from patronising.
I love the way Emina deals with her conflict. Within herself, and through society's gaze.
It talks deep about grief, losing, and acceptance. On how ppl deal with it.
Fyi, I'm so grateful that they choose to republish the book, bcs if it's up to its huge popularity like before, I don't think I'll be able to read it.
AND YES I'M A SUCKER FOR ITS NEW COVER. IT SUITS THE STORY PERFECTLY.
I guess this book is a suitable start if you're about to binge Ziggy's works. All and all, I'm happy and hungry right now. Live up to my babik personality, am signing off.

Semua orang mengalami tragedi dalam hidupnya. Gak semuanya besar menurut orang, tapi semuanya besar bagi yang mengalami.
What if one day one of us wakes up, dan berpikir: Yea, this is it. I'm not going out with mbak-mbak yang mirip kelapa parut anymore.
