In the Likely Event by Rebecca Yarros

Enjoyed this one. Didn’t love it. A tad repetitive. The ending was really well done.
Like Mother, Like Daughter by Kimberly McCreight

Thank you to the publisher for a netgalley.
I enjoyed the overall MAIN premise of this book. However, i felt the plot was a bit much. We go back 8 days before Kat disappeared, while following her daughter Cleo in the present.
For some reason we get therapist notes for Cleo, which to me added absolutely nothing to the story. Cleo was hard to deal with overall. For a girl in her early adulthood, she is like a petulant child who is never happy with anything at all.
I found Kat's story to be more interesting, even though again, the journal entries did not add anything to the story. Esp because we were already getting Kat's inner monologue. The journal entries could have been without if the inner monologue just dived a little deeper when she got the threatening texts.
I liked this book, but just fell a little short in the plot layout for me.

This is my second and last by this author as I DNFed her first book.
I DNFed the first book because the relationship between the woman and child was weird. You do not promise to adopt a student ever. Esp when you are nowhere near being able to do that.
This one just couldn't decide if it was going to be YA or adult. The dialogue was far from the witty banter that was intended. The characters are extremely flat. The moment I met Skya, I automatically did not like her.
Shaffer obviously is depending on people who grew up loving Willy Wonka (TWG) and Narnia (TLS) to feel nostalgia while reading these books. Well, she has not hit even close for me with either. When you are comparing your books to other beloved classics, those are big shoes and they have not been filled for me.

This was good. Didn’t love it, as I found the ending to be flat.
Look In the Mirror by Catherine Steadman

Thank you to the publisher for a netgalley copy.
Really enjoyed the cat and mouse game in this one. This and Steadman's last one, The Family Game, are so twisty and fun. I read this in two sittings in one day and honestly only put it down because I HAD to go out. The intricacy of Nina and her dad' s relationship played well into the plot as well.
The Maria interludes at some points felt like they were slowing the pace a bit, as her inner dialogue was super repetitive, but it wound up tying in nicely.

Bad Tourists: A Novel by Caro Carver

Really enjoyed this one. Page turner and then knowing this is a pen name for CJ Cooke made it better as I enjoy the books under that name as well.
The ending was really well done!
