The King of Plagues: A Joe Ledger Novel by Jonathan Maberry

Great book, even it the title got the King of Pain song stuck in my head.
Good action without making it feel like the hero is a one man army who could take anything including a small nuke.
It does a good job of setting up a followup novel while closing some plot lines.

Doctor Sleep by Stephen King

I loved the book.
King is wonderful when writing about someone growing up and reaching the limitations of their lives. He did such a good job of it in "IT" that on my second reading I had to stop because it was so realistic it made me depressed.
You have the kid from the shining all grown up, with all these powers, most writers would have made a bonafide super hero out of him, but King introduces what I feel real life into the character.
Genetic predisposition to alcoholism, bad family upbringing and a power that allows you to see stuff that is beyond your age to handle, all things that King handle superbly in this book.
And that is just a small part of the story!
Now I do want to mention one thing, and it is just a theory of mine and it's way out there.
I believe that at least part of this book was influenced by the nineties sitcom "Friends"
There was an episode where Joey and Rachel trade their favorite books
Joey's was the shining, Rachel's was Little Women.
It come's out that Joey get's confused by the characters in Little Women and thinks that one of the protagonists, Jo, is a boy. When he finds out Jo is a girl, he considers that the person She is interested in is named, Laurie, which he mistakenly thinks of as a girl. Aren't old names wonderful.
This leads to a line in which Joey says a lesbian sex scene was the only thing The Shining was missing.
Now this book comes out, a sequel to The Shining, and within the first 100 pages the main antagonist has a lesbian fling....

Great story about the hunt for the largest meteorite ever found.
It's big and it has a very unusual property, just like the gremlins.
I feel the story bogged down the last 20 or so pages and a sequel was promised at one point but never happened.
I loved the engineering company in this book, and they make an appearance in the Pendergast series these authors wrote, I would love to see a series of books written about them.

Robopocalypse by Daniel H. Wilson

Written in the style of Word War Z, multiple stories with just an over arching theme running through them.
Decent book but I felt it a bit lacking, expected more, but hey It's a freshman novel.
I hope Daniel Wilson gets more chances.

Aliens
This isn't one of those books that goes oooh, there might be aliens, then slowly backs away till we find out that it was Mr Henchley doing it all along.
This book makes it clear from the very beginning that aliens do exist in this book's universe.
Most of the book is dealing with man's interaction with the alien artifacts that have been found.
It is a conspirators wet dream
Men in Black
Crashes
Human Abductions
Alien Hybrids.
And Joe Ledger.
He is becoming one of my favorite series.

Man I love this series
Gender changing ghosts, check
squirrel armies, check
giant kids playing with cars like they were matchbox, check.
This book does a great job of putting together all the backstory that has been hinted at and setting up the final story arc.
Love it.
