This is so cute! I want more!!

I like the perspective and trying to figure out what Jin’s job was! (Semi-spoiler alert: It made me laugh!) I will definitely be picking up this series!

I love these guys so damn much! I’m also glad I watched the movie after the anime and before I read the manga because the movie fills some gaps I think. Not sure how the next two volumes are going to go but I’m excited!

Getting to see more Haruki and Akihiko’s relationship, and how Ugestu fits into everything, was really cool! There’s a crazy amount of growth between all of them and I love it!

MAFUYU IS ADORABLE!! I love Haruki’s hair, Uenoyama’s gay panic is very entertaining, and Akihiko is sexy and complicated. Love these guys!

Noragami has an interesting story and world. The Japanese culture is also heavier in this series, which I love! The terminology of blight, shinki, and so on is intriguing too.

I watched the anime but it was cool to see the ‘pre-anime story’ bit with Yato and Nora! She acted way different from the anime and I’m not sure which version I like better. But I was most excited for Yukine! I love his Shinki form, name, and what little is revealed about his past in the anime! Season 2 makes me love him more! (If you’ve seen the anime or read the manga, you know what I mean.)

The visual style is gorgeous too. And the designs of the ayakashi are cool!

I’m on the fence about this one…

First, it’s cute and light! Follows an episodic story progression complete with childish excitement and a grumpy guy in denial. Oh, and he’s a bit on the chubby side.

But I don’t know, I’m teetering between just accepting that Minegishi loves to feed Otsu because he likes seeing him geniunely enjoy something and borderline having a fetish of keeping him fat. It feels like it’s MEANT to be the first one, though I can see how people might take offense. That’s why I’m giving it 3 stars - it’s not ‘I don’t like this’ territory, but it’s ‘I’ve got some issues with it’.

I do like when Otsu catches himself blushing and gets frustrated with himself and when Minegishi gets excited that Otsu likes what he brings/makes him. The dynamic between them with the office setting is interesting too. Not sure if I’ll continue the series but I’m glad I checked it out at least!

I really enjoyed all the information and fun facts - the cool extras too! Still giving it 5 stars for what it is but I do wish it would’ve had a warning thing in the front about how far in the series you needed to be to not get (potentially) spoiled. It’s a good thing I was pretty far into the series before I read this, HOWEVER I haven’t finished the Liberation War arc so some things were new.

Ultra Analysis makes me wish my other favorite series would do things like this. I would LOVE to have one for Saiyuki, MÄR, One Piece, and a few others!

Also, I’m obsessed with Kirishima and Fatgum!

This one toned down the chaos and fighting a bit but it was still good! I’ve said this in one of my previous Reload reviews - I’m not as much of a fan of the Hazel arc. He’s just not as interesting as some of the other antagonists, especially Kougaiji and his party.

Also, between the manga and anime portrayal of Hazel, I’ve noticed the accent is different. In the anime, he has almost a light British accent or somewhere in Europe. The manga makes it seem more Southern (like from the US). He comes across as more sadistic and dark in the manga too. I can’t decide which version I like better. The relationship Hazel has with Gat feels like master and seevant in the manga while the anime gives off companion or borderline-friends vibes.

We are coming up on some of my favorite scenes of Reload though! I just have to acquire the volumes somehow!

So I did finish this book in one sitting (like 5 hours). The relationship between William and Dan is cute…BUT a lot of the book is repetitive. Essentially, they do the same 4 or so things throughout the whole book (i.e. cuddling, sleeping, eating, etc). Also, they were VERY formal with each other the the whole time and, now that I think about it, William mentions that his friends ‘pretty much just call him Will’ except they rarely call him that for the following 300 pages.

I like the virgin crush William develops for Daniel and the poor man’s puppy dog vibes at the beginning. However, I think the abuse, drugs, and PTSD angles could have been handled better. I have anxiety and depression but haven’t experienced the other stuff so I can’t say how accurate (or apparently inaccurate, according to a lot of reviews) they’re portrayed here.

Then there’s the coming out angle. I’ve read A LOT of coming out books and, with it being almost insultingly obvious to William and me as a reader that EVERYONE knows William likes Daniel, being dragged through 300+ pages of William just not telling anyone until the very end feels…well, insulting. I support that everyone has their own way of coming out - even fictional characters - but the supporting/minor characters LITERALLY TELL William that Daniel likes him and that they know he likes Daniel BUT WILL DENIES IT EVERY TIME! Once or twice, sure, but we have insight into William’s thoughts and he basically says he obsessed with Daniel numerous times. It just doesn’t make sense why he can’t accept people saying he likes Daniel when he says he likes Daniel, at least not when everyone William cares about says it.

Plus, the age gap. I don’t really think it’s necessary. William and Daniel feel more like they’re the same age. I had to constantly remind myself how much older Daniel is. It just feels unnecessary.

And I guess that’s my hot take on Not Quite Out.
