A CORGI NAMED CLOVER?? SO CUTE! And how is Theo so smooth??
I sometimes forget how much I love it when I read books that include a lot of culture. It’s been a long time since I first heard of mooncakes but ever since then I’ve wanted to try them. Knowing the relation to history and culture, I have even more respect for what they represent. Also, it was cool hearing about Chang’e again. I remember learning a bit about the story from the movie, Over the Moon.
So I honestly love the relationship between Theo and Dylan - how easy it somehow felt. Though I guess that’s also why I’m giving this book 4.5 stars instead of 5. I would’ve liked just a LITTLE more rocky-ness with their relationship. On the other hand, the book works great for a completely feel-good romance story where, no matter what happens, you get the sense it’ll have a happy ending. I don’t dislike that at all! I definitely already want to read this book again!
Fake Dates and Mooncakes is delightfully cute, cultural, and has a corgi named Clover. Cue the chef’s kiss!
So this might seem trivial, but I’m taking off half a star because it seemed like Henry lost his southern accent about halfway through. (I only noticed it because I live in South Carolina and I work in retail, so I hear a lot of the ‘southern drawl’.)
The art style, horror movie aspect, and romance between Cade and Henry are my favorite things about Northranger. That kiss scene was just so smooth! I’m not a big horror movie person, but I’ll admit I got swept up in the boys’ love for them. Their relationships flowed very well and the story had the right amount of opposition to it for what this story is.
Again, the art style is one of my favorite elements. The use of soft, curved lines reminds me a bit of Check, Please! - the hockey graphic novel series that’s also queer. BUT I like the warmer color scheme and using white and black around the scene blocks to indicate day or night. Very clever!
So, Northranger is a cute queer romance with darker vibes! Glad I checked it out!
UGH, MAFUYU AND UENOYAMA ARE SO DAMN CUTE TOGETHER!!!
I was definitely looking forward to this volume because of the concert, but I’m also glad I watched the anime first because I can imagine the song…and man is it powerful! I cried the first time I watched it! There’s some edge/darkness to this series, though it never feels too heavy. And it’s about music, which I’m very much obsessed with.
And the concert!! Of course what happens after too! The little bonus story was so (bitter)sweet as well. This whole series just makes my heart ache in a good and bad way. I love it so much!
This series is amazing, but this volume is probably the most emotional. I’d seen the anime before starting the manga and a certain scene in this still hurts.
Between the manga and the anime though, I’m starting to like the manga more. I absolutely love the anime and movies too! I’m also an absolute sucker for brotherly love stuff. These three brothers are so entertaining and sweet!
But now I need to continue the series with the way this volume ended!
Ugh, I love this series! It’s so quirky and unique! The monster and ÄRM designs were awesome - giving them my full seal of approval!
I know it kind of wrapped everything up, being the last volume of the series, but I admit that I want more! The backgrounds of some of the Chess Pieces for example. Still, I love MÄR and I’m so proud to have this entire series on my shelf!
