Canadian Boyfriend by Jenny Holiday

Did not finish book. Stopped at 35%.
I have to DNF this one. For a couple reasons

1. It’s so so so slow.
2. there is ZERO chemistry between the main characters
3. I know the letters and her making up him as her fake high school boyfriend are going to cause a fight and 3rd act break up but that’s stupid and doesn’t make any sense. I don’t want to go through that.
4. She only calls him Mike Martin in her innner monologues and it’s ALLLLLLLL the time. Like why. It’s so f*cking annoying.

The audio narration for this book was good. But the story sucks.

If I could give this negative stars I would. Eli was the bright spot. They get one star for what they named the baby at the end.

Penny is a horrible awful gaslighting jerk of a human who takes absolutely no responsibility for her own awful behaviors.

I’m breaking up with Meghan Quinn. Done. No more. She writes some of the most ridiculous stereotypes of women. I hate it.

Infinity stars. I’m in love with new kinks unlocked.

Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Humor/Banter: 🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭
Character Development: ✨✨✨✨

Loved this so much. Dark Rom Com, light stalking, masked man, light dom/sub, mafia, gooey romance.

If you loved Butcher & Blakcbird you will love this too!! Worth every single second.

** please note. Don’t take this book that seriously. It’s cotton candy and should be read for the fun of it.

Wow. That was a heartfelt and wildly well written book.

Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Character Development: ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
Setting/World Building: 🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎

I loved the Dual Timeline. I thought this was really well done. Will and Fern’s love story is so interesting and heartfelt. I loved how the characters deal with and learn about their grief and anxiety.

It was so interesting to weave in her mother’s journal and some of her story with Peter. The side characters were all wonderful.

The setting was just beautiful and I felt like I was wandering around the grounds for Brookbanks Resort.

This was so much more than just a summer rom-com. Truly unique storytelling and I was so invested in these characters. I couldn’t put the book down.

Romance/Warm Fuzzies: 💖💖💖💖💖
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ (but it’s a sloooooow burn)

I need a light, low stakes, sweet, hearts in eyes romance read. This was perfect. It’s slow to start and an extremely slow burn. But oh Lordy the banter and pinning was top notch. Ford is perfection honestly. Once the spice it….it was gooooood!

I like that the characters had good communication and talked like grown ups. That might be boring to some readers but I found it really refreshing.

If you need a break from high stakes reads this is the perfect lovey dovey fluff read that will leave you feeling happy and loved.

I will say unfortunately I found way to many typos in this book.

Nope. This one was not for me. I skim read the last 20%.

The amount of typos was jarring. Yen instead of yearn. Rust instead of lust. Calling his vehicle a suv and then truck. Not knowing the term for barbell. Describing a 280lb man’s body the way she did. Like have you actually ever seen a 280lb big boy???

The age gap nanny situation felt icky the whole time. The power dynamic was so bad. Calling her “girl” all the time. 🤢 He gave off Dad vibes in the worst way. Him calling himself a “big mother f*cker”

The 3rd act breakup was not believable and totally ridiculous. The Costa Rica get back together scenes were not believable either. AND we didn’t even get Wells and Josephine’s actual wedding.

There were some funny moments but mostly
I just had the icks the whole time.
