Nope. This one was not for me. I skim read the last 20%.

The amount of typos was jarring. Yen instead of yearn. Rust instead of lust. Calling his vehicle a suv and then truck. Not knowing the term for barbell. Describing a 280lb man’s body the way she did. Like have you actually ever seen a 280lb big boy???

The age gap nanny situation felt icky the whole time. The power dynamic was so bad. Calling her “girl” all the time. 🤢 He gave off Dad vibes in the worst way. Him calling himself a “big mother f*cker”

The 3rd act breakup was not believable and totally ridiculous. The Costa Rica get back together scenes were not believable either. AND we didn’t even get Wells and Josephine’s actual wedding.

There were some funny moments but mostly
I just had the icks the whole time.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 15%.
I could not get past how awful Zander’s is. How repetitive both characters are. Talking about him being a womanizer constantly how it’s not true, her talking about her body constantly, then talking about her thrifted clothes and ratty sweatpants….constantly. I literally do t care about these characters at all. Nothing interior happening and I’m 15% in. It’s so cringey. Also the narration is not great. I’m finding it very hard to read Dual narration vs Duet narration.

This was not for me.

TLDR: At its worst this was just trauma bonding.

I can’t find anything positive to say honestly. Other than I like Maddy the most. Justin was ok and needs a different girlfriend and a therapist!

I spent the whole book just screaming that Emma needed clinical help.

This was depressing pretty much the whole story until maybe that last two pages. By that point I wasn’t even happy about the HEA ending.

Honestly found very little happiness, joy or fun listening to this book. Maybe the way Justin did his date surveys that was cute. But most of the time it was all just very very sad and depressing.

This is NOT a cute summer beach read the way the cover makes you think. This is dark, and sad and depressing. Real life stuff…sure. But not a fluffy summer beach read.

Oh the male narrators voice for Emma was AWFUL. honestly if it’s going to be dual narration I wish they would voice their own parts in each chapters. It was only done with text messages.

Lastly the Toxic Positivity can get flushed down the toilet kings toilet!! “Between Empathy and Anger, Always choose Empathy” for gods sake. I want to scream them and yes you are allowed to be angry.

Ok I’m done.

I really really wanted to like this. It had the vibes of something great. The concept was so unique.

I did love that this was an ode to romance books. The last three chapters were so wonderful and totally 5 stars. I loved that Benji and Florence from The Dead Romantics made a cameo. I loved the book store and the cat.

But…..

There was zero chemistry between the main characters. ZERO I have no idea why or how they fell in love. It makes no sense. Did I mention this all happened in 5 DAYS!?! 5. Days.

I swear to the romance gods if I have to hear about his “minty green eyes” or “he smelled like cedar and black tea” one more time I might have lost it. So many times. Ugh.

I absolutely loved The Seven Year Slip and The Dead Romantics but this was a total miss for me. I actually skim read parts ☹️ because I was bored.

The magic worked for me. The romance/relationship/spice was absolutely not believable.

Meh. Just Meh. Good start but when the miscommunication/lying troupe lasts for 70% of the book, I just can’t. The ending was pretty good and made everything seem ok. But I just couldn’t figure how these two fell for each other in real life outside of the texting stuff. They just didn’t really seem to have moments in the book showing that.

I don’t know. It’s probably a me thing. But this book took the miscommunication trope way too far.
