I Am Legend by Richard Matheson
4.0
Neville is so real, he not a crazy hero. He just an average guy, having to survive against vampires. He gets mad, he can't do everything he wants to do, he doesn't have to answers he does research, which takes time out of limited time he has doing things that are necessary. He isn't motivated to do things that would befit him, like soundproofing the house. There just so much he has to do, and he's pissed about it.
The hard science side of the book isn't overbearing and working well with the pacing of the book.
The ending of the story is great. I brings the build up of the point to a point. The way Neville thinks and presents himself though the whole book makes the ending even better.
Just a small note for the "other stories". Most of them are really good, even close to the same level as I am Legend, Mad House and Prey are really good.

I did enjoy this book all the way though. The pacing is fast, there no stopping points. The only *slight* issue I had was the ending. It's not a bad ending k just wish it was more.

I did like everything up until mother Abigail's deathbed speech after that the book losses it's footing.

[continuing from the review of the other two books]
As I finish this series I know this wasn't for me. This one has the slowest pace and a multitude of details. When starting this book I was hoping to extra length would contribute to more story. That is wrong the extra details made the book much slower than the other two.
The best part of this book for me was the conclusion of storylines step up through out the first two books. However that being said I so wish they focus on some of the arguably more important ones just left in the void. Moving into my next point of the continuity isn't there. There many details though the first and second book that just lost in this one.
In my opinion after reading the trilogy, the second book is the best one.

[going off my review from the first book]
This book is much better then the first one. one of my big grips with the first book nothing felt like had feeling. It was just a list of events with a loose connect. However this book fix that for the most part.
20% of the book has the 4.5 writing, those being in 10 page intervals the rest it I would consider 3 stars.
The book is divided into two stories one starting at the half way point.
The book has gleaming idea laying with the dry sand of the book. All the Otherworld ideas are great and the best parts of the book.
I give this a medium pace but there are parts of the book that are really fast paced. (some of the better part of the book) But this is like 30% of the book so medium pace is more accurate just know I considered putting in under fast pace.
The first story ends badly, just quick 3 page ending to a whole storyline starting in the first book. The seocnd seems to have more emontion then the first one. However the characters just feel thrown for a sad moment. (similar to the first book) To the worst offence is his daughter, she born sometime in the events of the first book to get abandoned by him. I was hoping this would happen in book for a connection to the first book. Have a little reflection for Fionn, maybe a little father daughter moment. She only exists in this book to get raped and leave.
He compains about not having any kin many times though out the book which is just a lie. When the time comes he doesn't do anything about, he sends her out to hunt with someone that hates her.

The book is a cycle. A very simple cycle at that. The main character is very inconsistent and unbelievable even for being an Irish legend. I'm not talking about the fantasy elements of course, just that the main character has dementia.
That being said if this is your type of fantasy, it's fine. Just don't expect a good adventure per se. (just this book not the others in the trilogy)
The "sadness" feels artificial with death being the main trope.
The book can be summed up pretty easily. Goes somewhere, stays there a two maybe three chapters leaves. This isn't a big issue if you're following the main story.
My theory of why the book is like this: many of the elements of this story isn't part of the original, so they kill off/ leave so it still follows elements of the original once it gets to that point.

The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton
4.5
is good up until the last few chapters, which kinda ruins some of the ideas earlier in the book. Even if you apply the "they were lying to you" logic it still doesn't make sense as a whole.
I don't mind the prison idea it can work given the context but everything after that is bad. Just another note, that the ending leading into the start, making it a cycle just underminds the impact of the unmasking chapter (per day seven).

There are some decent stories in here. But most of them follow the same base storyline/set up. However it's makes sense given the context that most of the stories were written while he was still in college.
-this review is for the stories has a whole. Could change if only reading some of the stories.
