'And holy crap, I'm going to die here, murdered by Jill from accounting'....
Sweet purple ponies on steroids, what a roller-coaster of a book! It had me laughing, swearing, swooning and on the edge of my seat! A bit of a genre bender, it is romance, action, and paranormal all rolled up with a pretty bow on top. A Pararomtion...if you will.
I loved the Quirk herself that is Rune, an awkward klutz with the heart of gold who can never catch a break. She finds herself not really belonging anywhere but destined to try as hard as she can despite not being believed. Cue stage left, Donovan Frost AKA Ice Man, who had the opposite effect on me, I could tell ya. Both protagonists were great and Emily Colin has done a fab job of squashing the regular trope of 'boy not believing girl and they misunderstand each other to death', by making it part of the plot line that she is cursed. No more, beating our heads against the book out of frustration for them not 'getting it', they are deliberately not supposed to!
This book definitely had a Hot Fuzz or Truman Show element to it, being it starts as a normal story with a paranormal twist to it but it ends up being a raging inferno of 'This world was never normal, you just never knew about it' and all the hilarity and 'chaos' that comes with an ending with a bang! ...ahem...
This book has a real community feel to it, from the grannies in a smut book club, hashtagging your life for everyone to read about, or a best friend and made family, to the local law enforcement who is a bit of a knob to the fuzzy cute companion.
I thought it was great and well worth reading. I'm giving it 4.5 stars.
Thank you to the lovely Emily Colin for allowing me the chance to read an ARC for my unbiased opinion. Sign me up for the next one!

This was a perfect 'next' in the Starshine Cove series and its protagonist is my favourite character, Connie. The whole series has feel good, community spirit and fresh start vibes and of course knowing Debbie Johnson, full of humourous banter.
Connie is a character that has always made me smile and being the down to earth, mature lady with curves and a sassy mouth makes her excellent! Connie has a tragic back story that was known in other books but this book sees her backstory go even further and tugs at a different kind of feels.
The story goes through themes of starting again, survivors moving on guilt, terminal illness and children first. It is handles in a beautiful heart warming way without dismissing the heaviness and seriousness of them.
As usual I flew through it without putting the book down more than I had to, Debbie Johnson is a must read, favourite author of mine!
Thanks to Netgalley, and Storm publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

As always, with any Charlie N. Holmberg books, you get a fantastic adventure with plenty of action, some romance, a dash of quirk, a sprinkling of humour and a lot of heart! This is the 4th book in the Whimbrel House series and I'm so glad that it has continued and I hope (crosses fingers) it continues on. The author says in her note at the back that the series wasn't supposed to be more than a trilogy but I'm glad it gave her so much fodder that she has written more.
I really enjoyed the quirks of the magical world that has been written and the way that there's so much more that you learn about magic with each book. The romance between Hulda and Merritt was lovely and I loved that the books had them as protagonists for the first 3. This book we see though the eyes of Merritt a little, Silas a bit more and Owein mainly. It has made me feel a lot more for the character to read through his eyes instead of thinking of him as a very annoying child. This book is set 4 years after the last and significant changes have fallen upon Blaugdone Island. Marriages, children and family all around and yet, they shouldn't have let their guards down!
I appreciate how much more we get to see some characters develop in this book while still having the ones we know and love in supporting roles. The action is fantastic and just as you think that you can't imagine that anything could be bigger/better, more gets pulled out and whacks you in the senses!
All in all, a fantastic continuation to the series.
My thanks to Netgalley, 47 North and Charlie N. Holmberg for the opportunity to read this ARC. All opinions are my own.

This is the fourth book in the Mandeville family mysteries series and I am constantly delighted with each addition. The books are always a tad genre bending with some paranormal, some romance and some mystery or crime and it keeps you guessing well. I know there will be more as each book shares more enticing bits of the secret/origins/mystery but we still don't know everything yet. I'm always left hungry and a bit impatient for the next story and I appreciate that Callie Langridge takes her time to be well researched and thoroughly sure of what she is writing.
This story was a little slower to start than the rest and in the end I was left feeling that it hadn't been as romantic as the rest either. I do appreciate the characters being who they are, aren't exactly the huge romance type though. There were bits and pieces in Hettie's story that weren't entirely solved although maybe that, reflecting real life was the point of the book. It dealt with themes that were a lot more realistic to the times they were set (being pre WW2) and included a lot of sobering topics.
All in all, another seamlessly written book that focuses on different parts of the whole Mandeville family and Hill house. I'm sure I spotted reference to another babe in the making there as well which will ensure continuation of the line. A very enjoyable time spend in the company of characters old and new.

For a romance book, this was so surprising in a number of positive ways. There doesn't seem to be any of the usual tropes present and it was a very pleasant read. Sophie and Rafe were fantastic characters and did the unexpected. Just when I thought that Sophie would object or withdraw or be horrified, she turned out to be quite the opposite in a way that made her a superb protagonist and thoroughly 'modern' woman of the times.
Without any spoilers, I assumed that there would be a power play of wickedness or some underhanded plot that a certain character would use to assert dominance. Pleasantly, the story went in a different direction. Just when I thought that certain things were bound to happen, being a romance genre, they didn't and others did. A very fresh perspective and one I greatly valued.
It was beautifully written and I found it quite hard to stop reading once I had started. This is my third read from Emma Orchard and I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed them all!
4.5 stars rounded to 5. Thank you to Netgalley, and Boldwood books for allowing me the chance to read an ARC. All opinions are my own.

Enter, stage left, the sequel to the very funny and charming, Village Detectives book. This book sees the detectives come together again to clue out a mystery very much closer to their hearts. Phoebe is sent a death notice for herself in the mail, see has a package meant for her blow up and hurt somebody else and her hate filled tormentors from yesteryear are back and trolling worse than ever.
I really liked the characters from the first book, bubbly and funny Juno, private and pained Phoebe, Nordic God Mil and we actually have Felix taking part as detective this time around as well.
While some things from the first book are no further along...(Juno and her hunt for a house, car that works and ever evasive love) there are quite a few developments on the secrets that Phoebe and Felix weren't letting us in on. We learn about Phoebe's cancellation and early life, Felix's prior misbehaviour and what makes them both tick despite all the talk about them.
A lot of this book was focused on the devastation that can happen when cyber bullies attack or people use the senseless digital masses to bring someone down by spreading rumours and untruths and watching a huge fallout. This is unfortunately so common in these times and yet no more under control that the physical bullying is. I like how it was brought to our attention how we could be contributing to this in our everyday lives but I did not like the ending for these people in the story. Not brought to justice at all to my satisfaction.
This book had all the same heart, camaraderie and laughs that I've come to expect from a Fiona Walker book and the plots and whodunnits left me baffled. There were so many plot points and twists that I never for a second believed that I had it all understood and I was just along for the ride happily. Can't wait for the next adventure from the Village Detectives!
