'And holy crap, I'm going to die here, murdered by Jill from accounting'....

Sweet purple ponies on steroids, what a roller-coaster of a book! It had me laughing, swearing, swooning and on the edge of my seat! A bit of a genre bender, it is romance, action, and paranormal all rolled up with a pretty bow on top. A Pararomtion...if you will.

I loved the Quirk herself that is Rune, an awkward klutz with the heart of gold who can never catch a break. She finds herself not really belonging anywhere but destined to try as hard as she can despite not being believed. Cue stage left, Donovan Frost AKA Ice Man, who had the opposite effect on me, I could tell ya. Both protagonists were great and Emily Colin has done a fab job of squashing the regular trope of 'boy not believing girl and they misunderstand each other to death', by making it part of the plot line that she is cursed. No more, beating our heads against the book out of frustration for them not 'getting it', they are deliberately not supposed to!

This book definitely had a Hot Fuzz or Truman Show element to it, being it starts as a normal story with a paranormal twist to it but it ends up being a raging inferno of 'This world was never normal, you just never knew about it' and all the hilarity and 'chaos' that comes with an ending with a bang! ...ahem...

This book has a real community feel to it, from the grannies in a smut book club, hashtagging your life for everyone to read about, or a best friend and made family, to the local law enforcement who is a bit of a knob to the fuzzy cute companion.

I thought it was great and well worth reading. I'm giving it 4.5 stars.
