I’ve had this book on my TBR for quite some years, and I was excited to finally read it.
It started out as engaging in its ideas and concepts for a future time where women are given the tools to physically overpower men with their bodies, like of like superpowers in a way.
It could’ve been a great dystopia, but in my opinion, the characters were not interesting enough for me, and I didn’t love the repeated content in it (see trigger warnings) and the way it presented women. Maybe it was all a bit lost on me.
After finishing it, I am left with some musings on what the world would be like if the patriarchy was flipped on its head, but the feminism is just a bit basic for me I’m afraid.
Read if you are a fan of dystopian feminism, but I don’t heartily recommend.

Kaner has created a really rich and interesting world in this novel. From the beginning I was really intrigued about the world of gods, their forbidden nature, and by life of one of the main characters, Kissen.
It took me a while to really get into the story, but as the different threads of it started to come together I got more and more invested. I listened to the audiobook in tandem with reading a physical copy, and enjoyed that mix a lot.
I liked Kissen’s character a lot, and found her nature really intriguing. I enjoyed the queer rep and the normalisation of queer relationships in this world. The plot is really interesting and progresses at a great pace.
There are still so many questions I have that need answering, and I am looking forward to diving into the sequel in the near future to find out the next steps of these characters.
