[DNF] at page 78. After I started reading this I put it down for about a week (maybe more, actually) and just never picked it back up again. The writing was ok, with good humour in places, but I just struggled with the time settings. I've never read anything else by Maureen Johnson, but just based on what I read here, I feel her writing is better suited to the 1930s setting that parts of this book is written in, as opposed to the modern day setting which most of this book is written in. Something about the chapters written in the present didn't feel modern to me, and I can't quite put my finger on what. Anyway, other than that, I just wasn't particularly interested in any of the characters (especially the main character) or the plot, thus I never went back to reading it. It's a shame because I thought it sounded quite interesting from the blurb, but I just couldn't get into it.

A great installment with a super exciting ending that makes me look forward to reading the next volume, though it was a little boring/slow in places compared to the first volume. Still loved it though.

Fun but a little too fast-paced! Wish it was stretched out a bit longer, especially near the end because things escalated very quickly.

[DNF] Started this months ago, put it down, forgot about it, then picked it back up again and skimmed through... upon reading the acknowledgements I now see why this book feels so off to me. It being adapted from a version written before the entire rest of the series definitely checks out because the characters just don't feel like themselves, and overall the writing just isn't what I've come to love about this series. Really really sad about this one.
