generally, i'm not a fan of short story collections, so i didn't feel a huge urge to pick this back up when i wasn't reading it, especially since most of the stories were unsettling or sad. that being said, these stories were well-written and evocative (of course, it's claire keegan after all) and i felt myself being drawn into each of them.

this book was touching and nostalgic and gentle. reading it made me feel extra grateful for the simple things in life, and for my mom <3

this book was well-written and i was interested to see what would happen to the protagonist, zara, after the events of take it back, but in this case the twist at the very end felt like a letdown rather than a genuine plot point for the story to hinge on.

i was enjoying the slow pace and lush descriptions of this book, but it did drag somewhat in the middle with all of the narrative framing devices and i was curious to see how the mystery aspect would turn out. there were a lot of twists at the end when the pacing sped up rapidly, which was a bit jarring, but overall i liked this book.

the dual pov made this book feel really repetitive and the ending was lame!! in this case i think the tv adaptation was better
