The Stranger Times by C.K. McDonnell
4.5
Loved the humour and characters. Found some of the plot confusing at times, but definitely one of my favourite books I've listened to this year and looking forward to the next one.
The Self-Sufficiency Garden: Feed Your Family and Save Money by Huw Richards, Sam Cooper
4.0
A wealth of information well laid out and easily accessible. Definitely something I will refer back to. Unusually for me I found the recipe and what to do with the produce section interesting. I particularly appreciated that they explained all terms that some books take for granted.
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Steven L. Hopp, Camille Kingsolver, Barbara Kingsolver
4.0
It was enjoyable to read about the gardening/farming efforts, but there is also a lot about US policies, which as a non American was a slog to read through, all relevant and informative but dry (and outdated at the time I read it). I can recognise Kingsolvers's skill at writing purely by the fact that I was genuinely interested and invested in the mating habits of Turkey's by the end of the book, something I never imagined happening. Over all I'm glad I read it and will revisit it for ideas and recipes in the future.
The Unselected Journals of Emma M Lion Volume 8 by Beth Brower
4.0
I love spending time in Emma's world and hanging out with all the characters. I thought I wanted a longer book and yet in the end the wonder seemed diluted by the length. Not enough silliness and fun, not enough of the side character such as the reprobates and generally learning more towards serious. I still enjoyed it but not one of my favourites in the series.
Shifting Shadows: Stories from the World of Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs
4.0
I was expecting to enjoy some of this and have to plow through other parts but Briggs is so good that I found myself fully invested in each story and enjoying time with characters I never expected to
