She's Too Pretty to Burn by Wendy Heard

a pretty good mystery/thriller! i wish that the beginning picked up a bit faster because it got a bit dry in places and i felt like there wasn't much buildup to the murders but once it did get there i enjoyed it a lot. the plot was definitely stronger than the characters in my opinion because they weren't as developed as i'd like them to be. mick's and veronica's relationship was cute but again i didn't see enough buildup/characterization. however, the second half of the book was a lot stronger in terms of writing, storytelling, description, and plot. i was on the edge of my seat to as the situation unraveled and i tried to figure outwhat nico was going to do next. the scene when mick saved veronica at the bottom of the cliff was really well done in my opinion and the ending made me literally drop my phone and scream .while i usually don't read thrillers, i liked this one for the most part and would recommend it to people for an easy to read yet intriguing murder mystery!

definitely more predictable than the first book but still a pretty fun read! the romances both felt a little rushed but i liked the characters and the plot was quite interesting while being a bit convoluted at times. overall nothing special but an okay read!

IM SCREAMING AT THAT ENDING OMG.... i loved the premise and i missed reading mysteries like this. at times the writing was boring ish or redundant and i wish that we saw more of avery before the will reading! i didn't connect with avery or the brothers as much though that was expected to some degree. the plot twist at the end was very !! but the whole situation (mild spoiler) felt like very open ended and not tied up well? obviously i know there's going to be a second book but i wish we got more closure + i had no idea what was happening bw thea and rebecca towards the end as well. overall i missed reading mysteries and this one was pretty entertaining :')

The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

well... the premise of this book was good but overall i think it was much more complicated than it needed to be and by the end of the novel my head hurt bc of it. the writing style was a little less intriguing compared to the first book and i felt that avery got a bit more annoying? the mystery aspect wasn't as interesting as in tig and i think that while the author may have had a great vision for this novel, it wasn't executed well. i also didn't really enjoy how max (the one asian character) had overbearing doctors as parents and how even though we had a chance to explore her relationships with her parents in more depth, it wasn't mentioned at all. the romance was one of the only redeeming aspects for me, as avery's relationships with almost all the hawthorne brothers became more fleshed out throughout the book. i do think that this was a missed opportunity but there were some high points throughout the book so it's a 2/5 from me!

this was a really fast read :') it was slow at the beginning and i found both ivan and jasmine a bit annoying but after jasmine got sick both characters became more fleshed out and their relationship started evolving in a way that was more interesting. there were some lose ends that i wish got tied up better and i really wanted to see more of them competing. i also thought that the ending was a bit rushed and sudden but overall pretty cute!

i liked this! i don't have that much to say honestly i enjoyed the book and the characters and the romance and the writing and the plot. i also loved the found family and all the relationships were really well written. i just didn't connect to characters as much as i'd hoped but it was okay overall
