The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

2.0

well... the premise of this book was good but overall i think it was much more complicated than it needed to be and by the end of the novel my head hurt bc of it. the writing style was a little less intriguing compared to the first book and i felt that avery got a bit more annoying? the mystery aspect wasn't as interesting as in tig and i think that while the author may have had a great vision for this novel, it wasn't executed well. i also didn't really enjoy how max (the one asian character) had overbearing doctors as parents and how even though we had a chance to explore her relationships with her parents in more depth, it wasn't mentioned at all. the romance was one of the only redeeming aspects for me, as avery's relationships with almost all the hawthorne brothers became more fleshed out throughout the book. i do think that this was a missed opportunity but there were some high points throughout the book so it's a 2/5 from me!
