Always enjoy re-reading this. It's one of my favourites. It's a bit cheesy but I just enjoy it.

This was another of those books where the characters changed so much between the beginning and the end that I felt compelled to start re-reading right away. The unusual mix of Inuit and Irish traditions meant for interesting reading, and from an anthropological standpoint I also enjoyed seeing the comparison between The Company and The Natives.

Slow.

SpoilerUsually, when the planet alters the natives 'forces' everyone to talk to it, it's not benevolent. Still seemed creepy.

I really enjoyed the setting of this book; based loosely on reality, the surrounding environment and community is powerful and well shown. The characters[return]are interesting and believable, and the premise of the book works well. Unfortunately, the resolution is just a little far fetched and fantastic for my[return]taste. However, it's still worth the read. You'll enjoy every minute you spend getting there, just beware that at the end you may find you did not enjoy[return]where you got.

Holds up surprisingly well for a book written 30 years ago. A solid sci-fi with themes and motifs that reminded me of Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.

I was legitimately shocked by the
“Have my babies. My
sometimes seal babies” on the LAST PAGE
But also I’m going to read the other two books—good escapism.

The world building in this book is fantastic and I had a total ball reading along with Yana and her experiences on the planet and meeting the friendly citizens and learning the mystery of Petaybee!

Only reason it stays at four stars is that I found the ending a bit...well cheesy and rushed.
It jarred a bit to how the rest of the story played out.
Spoiler
Him: I loves ya lots and I'm also a seal, are you good with that? Like not always just sometimes, checkit my nifty fur!
Her: Eeek a seal!? Oh, okay alright then.
Him: Excellent, let's get to making those seal cubs...I mean babies... then!

Ah over all it was a great read and as to the follow up books? I am curious!!
(It's a nice state to be in!)
