Well written but too damn graphic! Violence against children gets in my head and I resent the repetition. We know what happened. Do we have to see the same grisly details from three sides?.. Furthermore, can we all agree to stop making the most vocal "person of faith" the heavy? Seriously, as soon as the prayers and Bible verses appeared I guessed the ending. Nice stereotyping...

I'll pass on her other books. It's just not worth digging through the basement of the outhouse for her handful of change.

Such a riveting book! It keeps you on the edge of your seat. Definitely some dark themes and a trigger warning are in order. But it’s  captivating and I adore how complicated the characters are and the internal monologue

My first Karin Slaughter book and I really enjoyed it even though the topics are tough! I also guessed the two big twists a mile away, but still enjoyed the journey of confirming my suspicions

It's a southern suspense with soul!
A deep and often powerful exploration of families, siblings and troubled relationships underpin this soft-boiled thriller. Quite epic in scope despite being set in a small, often claustrophobic environment, the town of Pikeville is a place where memories are long and resentment festers.
Karin Slaughter expends a lot of energy fully drawing her characters, I'm sure everyone reading this will pick a side between Sam and Charlie, the sisters who are so similar yet so different.
Recommended. The ending? Not quite the reward for the journey I would have hoped, but still a worthwhile journey to embark upon.

This book was great. I️ would have liked it to have been a little shorter, because there were a few slow parts. However, the conclusion totally blind sighted me, not the conclusion of Kelly, but everything with the past. A great read, if maybe a bit longer than it should have been.

Great read with an engaging storyline. Sam & Charlie are 15 & 13 when masked gunmen come to their home to settle a vendetta with their father, the local defense attorney who takes all the horrible cases. When he's not home, their mother is shot and they run for their lives. 28 years later they are still recovering from their past despite their active avoidance of their trauma but are forced to come to terms when Charlie is involved in a school shooting.
