My fourth Kenney book in a short time frame, and while these haven't all been five-star reads for me, I'm starting to find her formula very comforting. Sassy FMC, worshipping MMCs, what's not to love.

This was alllmooosttt a 3 star read for me but I felt like it wasn't quite worth knocking it down a whole star. Wendy was slightly ineffective and annoying in parts, particularly when she leapt to believe slander about herself that was coming from a known and remarkably unreliable source. (Trying not to need a spoiler block!) Just made me feel like she was a bit of an idiot. I saw the twist coming but that's not necessarily a bad thing, and I'm going to read the next book for sure. I appreciate that while these books are interconnected, most of them are easy standalones (besides this one, which I think is a duet?). Sometimes you want a fun fantasy read without having to commit to a nine book series.

Wendy is giving “pick me” “I’m not like the other girls”. The author is giving male gaze tbh. I swear at least 1/3 of the story are about Wendy’s boobs in some shape or form.

I did like the world and merging other characters into this story but how could Hook really be that powerful… I don’t get it.

And Melanie is very obvious with her intentions so there is no real surprise with where the story goes.

A warm soft mouth pressed to my forehead. “She’s right,” he whispered. “Taking you home would be the kind, wise thing to do. But I cannot be kind, or wise, so instead I will be very, very selfish.”

Rebecca Kenney just knows how to write a good book. Every adventure I have taken through her words have been such a delight to read. Wendy, Darling is a Peter Pan retelling where we follow Wendy and Pan as adults.

When Wendy left all those years ago back to her home, Peter began struggling with depression and when they thought they defeated Hook for good he popped back up again. Peter had to age himself up and some of the lost kids in order to protect Neverland and have a better fighting chance again Commodore Hook.

This story has some really cool twists to the original story like the children that were brought to Neverland, were done so with a purpose. They each have some type of unique ability. Peter's pan flute allowed him to see the auras around the special children, but didn't allow him to tell what kind of ability they have. He could see similarities in auras though!

In this book the lost kids have a new mother, who replaced Wendy when Peter aged up. Her name is Melanie and I disliked her immediately. My suspect radar was immediately on her.

Our Tinkerbell of the story, Trill, was hilarious with her openness. One of the quotes that made me lose my shit:

“He’ll love it. We have a very understanding relationship, you see. We have our own ways of pleasuring each other, but if he wants someone his size, I don’t forbid it, as long as I get to watch.” She licked her lips, eyes rolling with the pleasure of a past memory. “I can’t wait for tonight.”

Another twist to this story that I also enjoy is that Trill and Peter are half-siblings living under a very long curse. Trill being under a miniaturization curse and Peter his shadow separating from him which made him weaker.

This is book 3 of the immortal warriors series, which are all standalone with the exception of this book and its partner Captain Pan. With this book having a counterpart we do end on one heck of a cliffhanger but are promised a HEA. I very much look forward to reading Captain Pan very soon.

I read this book on my kindle and paired it with the audio-book as well. Both were fantastic!

This was an awesome story! The kind with a cliffhanger that makes me want to immediately buy the next book because I am invested. I need Peter and Wendy to have their happy ending.

Giving it a 4 because there were some parts of the world-building that were clearly related to other books in the series, when this was recommended to me as an interconnected standalone.

But overall a highly entertaining, adventurous Romantasy story. Definitely recommend if romantasy’s your genre, if you loved Disney’s Peter Pan growing up (and are an adult now because there are some mature themes in this book), like second-chance romances/slow-burn love stories with a dash of grumpy-sunshine, and love a morally gray MMC.
