My 2nd Tami Hoag book, and I enjoyed this one more than the first. I plan to read more of Hoag.

"The 9th Girl" is the hunt for a serial killer while bringing in current technologies and cultures. Cell phones, texting, social media, cyber-bullying, tattooing play front and center roles in "The 9th Girl."

Detectives Kovac and Liska work to solve the murder of a young lady whose body is found on New Year's eve. They question whether the murder is the work of a serial killer who has killed 8 others. As they fit together the pieces of the victim's identity, the sad details of her life lead them closer to her killer.

I usually don’t give a book more than 100 pages before I decide I’m just bored and life is too short. But I was hurt, so it was more trouble to pick up a new one.
The book picked up pace around page 125, but it was hot and cold for me. I’m still not sure which cops were which because they all read the same.
I wanted to like it. I usually love these types of books.

It's an okay mystery book.

Some parts of the story were great and other parts felt boring and out of context. There was a bit too much over explaining and many parts about Kyle (Liska's son) and his struggles were tedious and boring.

The plot line was great, and although I had a feeling... it was not 100% what I had expected. The ending did feel very rushed though.

The most promising and interesting character, Doc Holiday, only played a minor role in the plot and the ending of that part of the storyline was a bit short and disappointing.

I don't think I have read one Hoag book that I haven't liked. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and turning pages, eager to know what happened. I really need to go back and read the other books in this series sooner rather than later! That being said, you don't need to read the other three books in the series to follow this book along.

This book is f*cked up, man.

Like, there is some seriously twisted shit in here.

Maybe it's because this is my first Tami Hoag book. Maybe it's because I'm not used to reading mass-market murder mysteries. Maybe it's because I'm a little too "innocent". I don't know.

What I do know is that Hoag threw everything but the kitchen sink into this book. Bullying? Check. Mutilation? Got it. Molestation? Yup. Serial killer? Of course. Disturbing parent-child dynamics? It's in there. I could keep going, but I don't want to give too much away, just in case someone reads this review and says, "You know what? Sign me up."

I'm telling you, though -- this one is unsettling. And not in a good way. Do with that what you will.

This one was a good one and even had a bit of a twist that I liked.
