Where do I start? This book is mostly about verbal, emotional, and physical abuse from a husband (Charlie) to his Wife (Sal). Each chapter is written back and forth between their perspectives. It was OK. Sal I found to be extremely annoying and stupid. It was hard to enjoy. Then I got almost to the end (and I am unsure if it’s my copy as no one else has mentioned this) but the last 3 chapters were completely screwed up. He and she and the perspectives were mixed together (obviously on accident) The author was writing the chapter is Charlie’s view but was saying he was a she and Sal was a he and it was just a mess. Literally had it fine the entire book and then it was like she got drunk writing the last 3 chapters and didn’t realize she was mixing the characters sexes from their standpoint it was ass backwards. Literally backwards. For me it ruined the book.

Whoa. This book was a bit heavy for me.
This book is about Sam and Charlie and their abusive relationship. They are married and Sam stays at home with their daughter, Maggie while Charlie works. She is a lawyer is very career focused and will soon be partner at her law firm. When Charlie is upset or doesn’t get her way she takes it out on Sam.
I’ve never read a story where the abuser was the woman. It was a bit emotional at times for me. I wanted to tell Sam “go to the police”, “see a doctor” and “save yourself”. I did except a better ending, though.

I held on to find out what the big twist at the end was and was underwhelmed. All the back and forth and rehashing of the exact same incident from each spouses point of view was kind of boring. Meh.

I started reading this on vacation sitting by the pool, and on my short flight home and I just could not put it down.
I was intrigued from the get go, desperately wanting to see where the story went, and I wasn’t disappointed!
That twist had me in shock. I had to re-read a few chapters to make sure there wasn’t a mistake in the printing, I couldn’t believe what I was reading and how my perspective of the story telling led me to form the opinions that got flipped upside down! Would 100% recommend this book to everyone I know!

The synopsis for this gives nothing away, so I went into the book blind. I am grateful for the fact I have been able to read this book before release as I am sure there will be those who will find it hard not to spoil the book for others.
The story itself is written extremely well, with alternating POV's throughout. We get to know the characters of Charlie and Sal as they take it in turns to tell their side of the story. We learn about how the couple met, how their relationship developed, and where they are today. We discover deep hidden secrets which no one outside the marital home is privy to, and we see different sides to the characters.
By the end of the book I was totally doubting everything I had just read. The author has done an amazing job at not only providing a gut wrenching story, but one which will have you questioning everything you thought you knew. If this is the authors debut novel then I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Carina for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
