TBR Reduce Challenge #4 - 2011 (Lora)

My summary for this book:

I recommend this to anybody who has trouble sleeping and/or with their orchids.

*sighs*

This was a little difficult to get into at first due to the almost complete lack of knowledge of the world the characters inhabited. It quickly improved, but just as I had invested emotion in the characters, it ended - and I say ended rather than concluded, because there was no conclusion at all. It may very well be that this is part of a series of books but even so I'd rather that I had been left with a few more answers and a few less questions at the end of The Line.

This was okay, but a little young, even for my tastes that still rest solidly in the YA region. The plot was obvious from the beginning and the oppressive government was derivative as were the "powers" gained from surviving an atomic blast. However, the bit about the bombing of civilians that occurred far in the past was interesting.

As the book progressed, I began to like it more. But I feel that it still lacked substance and emotion.

I found that this book gave a lot of important background leading to the next book, and that is always good, but I didn't feel like there was enough action. I am enjoying the second book much more than the first!

Hmmmm... it was okay I guess. 2.5 stars I didn't fall in love. The library has the next book in the series but not the one after so I am debating on whether or not to read the next one. It could be nice to see where this goes.

I want to know how her cross orchids do, lol.

There is something about Rachel's personality that bugs me. There is something fake about it. She does not seem real. She seems like a book person.

Very interesting book. While it felt like nothing happened for the most part of this first book I am excited about starting the next one.

When I first started this book I was rather excited. I had just finished reading the hunger games and this book had the similar theme of the over barring government and struggle to not let them run their lives. But 75 pages i and I felt as though nothing had really happened and the author was just feeding me way too much back ground information way too fast. Around the 100th page when pathik is introduced I thought things were about pick up buttt they didn't at least not until about 50 pages to the end. Once Rachel crossed the line It finally got really good. The last pages were good enough to make me want to read the next book. I believe that now that Rachel is Away I think the story could get really good. Hopefully we are now done with most of the back ground info and we can get on to the story.

An overall good read, but it started out really slow. I love the way this book is written but I wish the characters explained things in a more natural manner. At one point in order to explain the history of their world one character quizzed the other and it was really unnatural. Once the booked picked up that went away and I enjoyed the book and flew through it! I like the characters and the style, just wish the pacing was better, but I'm excited to read the others!
