This book is a story about love and family connection and about how the spirit of water in its many forms have shaped their lives. Take your time reading, this book is written too beautifully not to.

i feel so cool having this as my first book of the year. big improvement from where i left off last year (the entire magic treehouse series). had to stop 2/3 of the way through because it got too dark but i was very brave. includes goat ghosts and talking trees and science (but some of it is wrong) so really where can you go wrong??

Goat ghosts. Communicating trees. All very calm and trustworthy. Funny in a very understated and natural way. I liked this book a lot.

3.75 stars. This was such a pretty book. The writing is lush and lovely. The author plays with lots of really nice ideas throughout. I'd say half of the book worked for me. The first and last sections were wonderful. Swarup captured their relationships beautifully. I was less interested in and drawn to the characters in the middle two sections. Overall, there's a lot to love here, and I look forward to seeing what Swarup is able to do next!

This is a tough book to read because it forced me to confront the kind of reader I am. Shubhangi has attempted something massive and possibly magnificent, but I simply didn't get a lot of it. Every sentence and paragraph is like abstract art or contemporary dance, which is exhausting over the course of a novel. Hence, I don't believe I'm the best reader for this.

It was beautiful, but honestly, I got very lost in it. Once the first story was over, I wasn't drawing the connections between the stories and it just made me more and more confused. It was a fun way to pass the time, but ultimately not the one for me.
