while not my favorite of the cycle, and a bit repetitive with the character's self-expression as a "murderer", the writing elevated what would have been lost in another writer's hands. satisfyingly bring the story and thematic structure full circle, the last act genuinely excited me while wracking my nerves.

She writes so beautifully. And it certainly says something that I read this cover to cover without knowing or needing to know it is the last book in a trilogy. Now, onto books one and two.

Quirky, fast paced with engaging characters and thoughtful development.

An unfaithful wife loses her husband to an international stabbing, then coincidentally inherits a house full of taxidermy. She proceeds to have weird adventures with her handicapped daughter, her save-the-environment boss, a married lawyer, and a posse of senile old ladies. This book's introverted super-weirdness is unique and charming.

I recognize this book is not one everyone will universally enjoy. I really struggled at the beginning- the main character seemed so whiny and it was a bit repetitive. Once I got through the first 50 pages or so, the book opened up and became so thoughtful and funny and moving. I loved it. Also, her description of fantasy baseball is priceless (speaking as someone whose husband is ridiculously serious about the "sport").

Really weird things happen to characters in the worlds that Lydia Millet creates. And I pretty much always love it. Despite some early misgivings about the fact that taxidermy played a major role, I especially loved this one.

This might be my favorite book of the whole trio; ironically, it is also the last. Lydia Millet continues to be one of my favorite American authors - and she will continue to be as long as she keeps writing books like these. Here's hoping that they'll one day release all three books in omnibus format for re-reading purposes.

Great writing, interesting characters. I understand this is part of a series. I think I want to read the other books by this author. The storyline draws you in, all the way to the end, and while I wanted to know more when the book ended, it wasn't an unsatisfying ending. Very enjoyable.
