Wer kennt den "Wunschpunsch" von Michael Ende denn nicht? Ich habe die Serie zum Buch geliebt, als ich klein war, doch gelesen hatte ich es bisher nicht - also war es höchste Zeit, das zu ändern.

Da das Buch ziemlich kurz ist, lässt es sich schnell lesen, aber dazu trägt auch bei, dass die Geschichte kurzweilig und unterhaltsam ist. Michael Ende hat schrullige, aber dennoch liebenswerte und sympathische Charaktere geschaffen, die die Handlung gut tragen und sogar die Antagonisten sind irgendwie nicht unsympathisch, obwohl sie die Zerstörung der Welt planen. Dazu kommt, dass die Dynamik zwischen den einzelnen Figuren sehr gut ist, sowohl in Bezug auf die Tiere als auch auf die Menschen. Von Hass zu Freundschaft ist alles dabei und durch diese Kombinationen gibt es ein paar unterhaltsame Momente.
Die Handlung an sich ist fantasievoll, gerade durch die Beschwörungen und Zauberformeln, die der Autor einwirft, und (obwohl sie ziemlich vorhersehbar ist) packend. Man weiß schnell, wie es ausgehen wird, aber die Hindernisse, die die beiden 'Helden' bis dahin überwinden müssen, sind interessant dargestellt. Dazu kommt, dass einige gesellschaftliche Probleme kindgerecht thematisiert werden, was ein Pluspunkt für das Buch ist.
Besonders schön fand ich die Illustrationen, aber auch, dass die Kapitel mit der Uhrzeit überschrieben sind, ist ein nettes kleines Detail.

Insgesamt hat der "Wunschpunsch" mir gefallen und ich vergebe 4 Sterne.

Ich habe das Buch bereits vor ein paar Jahren gelesen und konnte mich nur noch fragmentarisch an die Handlung und Michael Ende's Stil erinnern und habe es deshalb als Hörbuch (gelesen von Christoph Maria Herbst) nochmals genossen.
Ein in Bezug auf die Darstellung des Stoffs leicht "verdauliches" Kinderbuch mit viel Hintergrund, der selbst Erwachsene zum Nachdenken über Gut und Böse anregt.

This book is just so heartfelt, fun, and adorable. An absolute joy to read and the most satisfying wordplay you've ever seen. I can envision this being such a beloved household story for kids every New Year's Eve. What a treasure.

This is a middle-grade book by the author of The Neverending Story. It's meant to be read in real time, meaning the events take place over the course of five hours, and it's meant to be read in five hours. I suppose if a parent read this to a child, the timeline would line up nicely.

Much of the premise of the book is younger than middle grade: a talking cat and raven, a witch and wizard who are evil because they're evil, and transparent main characters. Jacob, the raven, is clever and observant, but cowardly, while Mauriccio, the cat, is easily fooled but brave and loyal. In the end, they're rewarded for their fight to end the evil plot cooked up by their masters, Beelzebub Preposteror and Tyrannia Vampirella, Preposteror's aunt and financier.

There are some plays on words within the text, though they may have been harmed from their translation from German. Or, the fact that I'm not the target audience might've made them fall flat.

I think a 7- or 8-year old might find this perfectly entertaining as a bedtime story. Adult readers looking for the magic of The Neverending Story would do well to look elsewhere. This is far more simplistic and silly. It does have a few genre convention nods, but, overall, it doesn't stack up.
