A story of magic and secrets, and the monsters we create.

There are many story about the demon that haunts the forbidden forest beyond the Younwity Hidden Institute of Witchcraft. Abby is excited about the Samhain festivities coming up, but when Noreen goes missing in the woods, Abby feels there is something more going on. Even though she is told not to, Abby searches into the past of the school to find what is hiding in the woods so that she can get Noreen back.

This was a cute YA witchy mystery. It is exactly what it promises to be, but doesn’t do anything unexpected. It was OK.

Really beautiful and pretty good story. Great dark academia setting.
Def had somethings happen a little too fast cause that's kinda the nature of a graphic novel. Like the one romance was made a possibility half way through then boom they're kissing by the end. Would have preferred more of a slow burn but that's just me

Younwity's Institute of Magic is a great setting for the magical mystery in Over My Dead Body. Creepy vibes abound as students disappear in the dangerous forest surrounding the school, and it gradually becomes clear that some secrets have persisted for years. I loved seeing the variety of familiars and the way in which they interacted with their people. The graphics were really well done and complimented the story well.

Was cute. I wish there was more sapphic stuff but that's ok.

This graphic novel had such a great vibe and essence to it. It was visually appealing and the story was unique and refreshing, keeping me on the edge of my seat. I appreciated the LGBTQ visibility and the found family trope and loved the familiars! Another small detail that really stood out were the quotations that began at the start of each chapter, setting the tone for what was to come. I was thoroughly impressed with this story and recommend it to fans of the supernatural.
*ARC received from NetGalley, though all views are my own*
Second time reading thoughts:
It really felt like even though it was a magical book--kinda fall cozy fantasy but spooky/YA horror--that the teen stuff felt relateable to real life.
This could be a really cool series to develop even further because the foundation has been laid for more and more layers of a really intricate world to be developed(magically, socially with magical and non-magical beings)
I also love the queer rep in this book, it felt very natural and appropriate for a YA graphic novel.

I got an ARC of this wonderfully fun graphic novel from Net Galley. I really loved the art work, female friendships, and magic in this. Abby’s almost-sister goes missing, and she goes on an adventure with her friends and all of their familiars (WHO CAN TALK) to figure out what happened.
While the book really is reminiscent of Harry Potter (magic school, trio of friends getting into trouble) this book is a vibrant graphic novel that stands well on its own.
