Always a classic animal story. Short and sweet, yet is able to catch your attention and keep it til the end of the book. I know I say this about a lot of the books I read, but those are really the only kind of books that are worth reading :)

Oh my god! Everyone warned me before reading this story, but I honestly had no clue!! Old Yeller is the required reading for our upcoming 6th graders and I'm afraid now that I won't be able to booktalk it without crying! I also think I may have to provide some therapy during our summer reading program!

I knew how that was gonna end, but still, here I am, sobbing over a fictional yeller dog. I'll be sure to rent this movie next time I want my heart ripped out. I did really like the book (because I'm a masochist) & the ending, with Old Yeller's pup starting his shenanigans. :)

4.3 Stars. I have never seen Old Yeller the movie, but like everyone else, I knew what happened at the end. So when I saw this book on my cousin's book shelf I didn't have any notion of reading it, but I did want to look through it because it was supposed to be a classic. I ended up reading the first page and on the very first page it tells you how the boy had to kill the dog, which made me think this book might be worth the read. In the end I really enjoyed the adventure and can see very well why this book is a classic. Recommended for everyone.

I refuse to talk about this book. It traumatized me as a child.

...I can’t. Even though this was a great story, it was so sad. But I still liked this, and it deserves 5 stars.

Very obvious why it's considered a classic.

I read this with my son. Such a good book, I can't believe I had never read it! Made my son cry and made me jump. I liked the book better than the movie for sure.

The movie ending that i remember was better.

At least in the movie they locked him up and waited to see if he actually had it before blowing his head off.
